He Bet I’d Crawl Back—My New Husband Was Waiting Outside Chapter 07

The doctor came in to treat Sebastian’s injuries.

When they cut away his blood-soaked shirt, I saw the tattoo on his chest.

A sun.

A moon.

Stars.

It was the design I’d drawn by hand when I was pregnant for the first time. A family of three.

I still

remembered the day I sent him that sketch. He’d replied with a single line:

“The moon? You think you deserve that?”

The doctor finished and left quickly.

It was just the two of us now.

Sebastian walked over to me and seized my wrist, gripping it like he’d never let go.

“Ginevra.”

“I want to apologize to you. Personally.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Everything was my fault.”

“I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”

“All I’m asking is that you forgive me.”

Before I could open my mouth, his phone rang.

Tessa.

Sebastian put it on speaker right in front of me.

Her panicked, sobbing voice poured out immediately.

“Sebastian, help me

! Your head of security broke into my apartment with his men. They dragged me to a hospital

The baby they’re going to take our baby!”

She was screaming, hysterical.

Sebastian didn’t even flinch.

He kept his eyes on me.

“Tessa.”

“I already know you drugged my drink that night.”

“This child can’t exist.”

“You hired troll farms to spread the story that Mrs. Varenna is infertile.”

“You used company servers to fabricate evidence and destroy Ginevra’s reputation.”

“All of it has been scrubbed.”

“As for the consequences, the family will deliver those personally.”

Silence on the other end. A few seconds.

Then Tessa began begging, incoherent and desperate.

“Mr. Varenna, I made a mistake, I wasn’t thinking clearly. I didn’t mean any of it. Punish me however you want, but please spare the baby. Please, I’m begging you–”

A piercing scream cut through the line.

I flinched instinctively.

The moment Sebastian saw my expression change, he hung up.

He lifted my hand and pressed it gently against his cheek.

His face was drained of color.

But his eyes held a tenderness so raw it was almost pitiful.

“Later tonight, I’ll have them send you the full report on how it was handled.”

“Once you’ve seen with your own eyes that Tessa has paid the price…”

“Can you forgive me? Even a little?”

Even just a little.

i pulled my hand away from his skin.

And calmly suggested:

“This hospital has an excellent psychiatric department.”

“You should go check yourself in.”

Sebastian let out a weak laugh.

“Okay.”

“Whatever you say.”

He probably believed

that now that he finally understood his mistakes, all the damage he’d done over nine years could be slowly repaired with the rest of his life.

But he didn’t understand.

Remorse that arrives too late is not devotion.

Punishing Tessa didn’t erase the fact that every single time he chose to hurt me, it was his hand that did it. His decision. His cruelty.

Three days after Sebastian clung to that

delusion, Declan and I got married.
