“That’s impossible. She’s used this passport to travel internationally before. How can it suddenly

be invalid?”

Noah shoved his way to the counter and confronted the airline agent.

The agent opened the passport.

One corner of the passport data page had been torn, and part of the security area was damaged.

“The passport is no longer valid. She’ll need to apply for a replacement, so she cannot board today.”

Getting a replacement would take several days at minimum.

There was no chance they would postpone the entire trip for me.

They could no longer force me onto the plane.

I hid my relief and made my voice sound crushed.

“How did this happen? I already promised I’d travel with everyone.

Lily immediately leaned toward the counter.

“We have a photo of her passport data page on our phones. Can we print it and use that instead?”

The others began suggesting one alternative after another.

The agent remained polite, but the answer never changed.

“No. She must present the original passport, and it must be intact and valid.”

Noah turned and stared at me.

“Erin, did you destroy your passport on purpose just so you wouldn’t have to come with us?”

My heart slammed against my ribs.

I had torn it during the ride to the airport.

At the time, it had been the safest escape I could think of.

“What are you talking about? It’s my passport. Why would I deliberately destroy something that important?”

I lowered my head and pretended to be devastated.

“But it doesn’t matter now. A replacement will take at least a few days.”

Lily immediately pulled out her phone.

“Then I’ll ask the company if they can push back our departure. This is our graduation trip. It won’t be complete if even one person is missing.”

I could barely keep up the disappointed act.

“Don’t hold everyone else up because of me. You should leave as planned.”

Noah crossed his arms and spoke in an irritated voice.

“You’ve wasted everyone’s time. The least you can do is pay for whatever extra expenses we have

during the trip.”

“Why should I pay a cent? I said from the beginning that I wasn’t going. You dragged me here

against my will, and you can still leave exactly as planned.”

They expected me to cover the extra expenses for all forty people, as if they could dump every

possible loss on me.

The moment I finished speaking, Noah shoved me hard.

I lost my balance and fell hard to the floor.

Not one classmate stepped forward to help me.

Most of them only looked irritated.

“If she doesn’t want to come, forget her. Don’t let her ruin the trip for the rest of us.”

“Everyone else was ready on time. She’s the only one who keeps causing trouble.”

“Stop it!”

Blair rushed over, shoved Noah away from me, and planted herself between us.

Noah frowned.

“What are you doing here? Since when have you two been so close?”

We had all attended the same high school, so everyone knew one another.

Blair gave him a glacial look.

“My class booked our graduation trip through Erin’s family’s travel agency. We’re leaving today

too.”

My former classmates burst into mocking laughter.

“You mean that $1,299 tour? You actually fell for it? She’s obviously making money off all of you,”

My stomach tightened.

Blair’s class had paid the restored standard price of $1,699, not the discounted rate I had offered my

own classmates.

But Blair didn’t even blink at the number they quoted.

“A basic search will tell you that nonstop round-trip airfare alone costs close to $900 Even at $1,699, once you include hotels, meals, insurance, and activities, the price is completely

reasonable.”

Noah scoffed.

“Our trip to Europe is only $699, and we’re staying longer than you are.”

Blair stared at him for several seconds.

“You’re going to Europe too? Then why aren’t you checking in here?”

She pointed toward the flight information board across the terminal.

“There’s only one nonstop flight to Europe leaving this airport today, and it’s ours.”
