After Our Wedding Was Canceled, He Searched the River for the Ring Chapter 06

Miles opened the company group chat. It was already blowing up.

Someone had posted security footage from the wedding venue the night before. In the video, Sienna

waited until no one was looking, then slipped a gardenia into the bridal bouquet.

Next came the delivery photos from Elena’s studio. The bouquet in those pictures was exactly as

delivered, with no gardenias anywhere in it.

Someone in the chat asked:

[So Elena was the one who was framed?]

[Wasn’t she hurt last night too? And didn’t Miles spend the entire time protecting Sienna?]

Miles’s vision went dark for a moment.

By the time he rushed back to the office, a crowd had gathered outside the conference room.

Inside, members of the groom’s family were pounding the table.

“My wife is still under observation at the hospital,” the groom said.

“Whoever put that gardenia in the bouquet needs to come forward and take responsibility!”

Sienna sat in the corner, her face pale.

The moment she saw Miles, she jumped to her feet as though he were her last hope.

“Miles, please explain it to them.”

“I didn’t mean for this to happen. I only added it because I wanted the bouquet to look more like

something I had made.”

“Besides, nothing serious happened to Elena. She’s just angry…”

Miles stopped in his tracks.

In the past, whenever Sienna looked at him with tears in her eyes, he would instinctively step in to

protect her.

This time, all he could think was how absurd it was.

“Nothing serious happened to her?”

His voice was painfully hoarse.

“She lost her wedding. She was framed, shoved to the ground, and hit.”

“And to you, that was nothing more than her being upset?”

Sienna immediately burst into tears.

“What about me?”

“This was my first wedding as lead coordinator, and now iny career is ruined too!”

Miles stared at her.

Suddenly, he remembered saying almost the same thing to Elena the night before.

He had told Elena how hard Sienna had worked and demanded to know why she was so determined

to ruin Sienna.

Only now did he realize how absurd those words sounded when they were directed at the person who had actually caused the damage.

Then one of his coworkers spoke quietly.

“Elena actually came to the office yesterday.”

Miles whipped around.

“When?”

“Yesterday afternoon. She came to cancel the wedding venue booking.”

“She said the reservation was under your name, so she wasn’t authorized to cancel it herself. She asked us to tell you.”

The coworker glanced at Sienna and lowered her voice even further.

“Sienna happened to walk by. She said she would let you know.”

Miles slowly turned toward Sienna.

“I… I was too busy at the time.”

He advanced on her one step at a time.

“You knew she was serious about canceling the wedding.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Sienna backed away from him. Finally, she stopped pretending.

“What difference would it have made if I had told you?”

She laughed, her eyes red.

“Would you have believed me?”

“Miles, why are you pretending to be so devoted now?”

“You chose me again and again. Did I force you to do that?”

The color slowly drained from his face.

Sienna stared at him, her voice trembling.

“Do you know why I fell for you?”

“Because of how well you treated Elena.”

“You treated her like the luckiest bride in the world.”

“I wanted to know what it felt like to be the one you chose.”

She kept laughing until tears began to fall.

“But then I realized your devotion wasn’t worth much after all.”

“All I had to do was cry, and you would abandon her.”

The words cut into Miles like a knife.

He wanted to argue, but he could not force out a single word.

The company acted quickly.

Sienna was fired on the spot for making a serious mistake and deliberately covering it up. As the

project lead, Miles was suspended pending an investigation.

He returned to the apartment he and Elena had prepared as their home and tore through everything

she had left behind.

Eventually, he found an enrollment confirmation email on her tablet.

It was from the French Institute of Floral Design.

She had been admitted a month earlier.

She had confirmed her place the previous afternoon.

Miles stared at the date, barely able to breathe.

Then he remembered.

Elena had once asked him cautiously, “Miles, I want to study floral design in France for a year. Would that be okay?”

At the time, he had been revising their wedding plans and had not even looked up.

“Once we’re married, you can’t just take off for a year.”

“We’re going to be a family. You can’t keep thinking only about yourself.”

She had been silent for a long time before answering softly, “Okay.”

It wasn’t that she no longer wanted to go.

She had simply chosen him.

Now, she no longer wanted him.

Miles clutched the tablet as his fingers trembled violently.
