Secret Mission Turned Out to Be Fathering My Bestie’s Baby Chapter 09

Nathan showed up.

But only to negotiate.

“Emma, I know I hurt you. I know you’ll never forgive me. I’ll sign the divorce papers. But can we wait until your mom’s surgery is done? She really can’t handle another shock right now.”

I was cold. “Those are two separate things. Does staying married improve her odds of recovery?”

“Did any of you consider what I was going through back then?”

“I’m sorry, Emma. I really am. I should have kept my head.”

His face twisted with pain.

“Give me a chance to make it right?”

I cut him off. “Are you going in or not? Don’t waste my time.”

He shook his head.

“Emma, please. Just wait a little longer.”

“Then I’ll see you in court.”

I turned. He grabbed my arm.

“Emma, after all these years, don’t you feel anything for me?”

My gaze turned even colder.

“Feelings? You don’t get to use that word.”

“Then who do you want to share your feelings with? Your precious mentee?”

He pointed at Liam, who was stepping out of the car.

Liam rushed over and pried Nathan’s hand off me.

“What’s it to you? You have no right to question her.”

Nathan swung at Liam.

Liam dodged.

“You don’t even have the right to be jealous.”

Nathan lost it completely.

“Emma, you two were already hooking up over there, weren’t you? You just needed to catch me first so you

could play the victim.”

Liam threw a punch.

“Shut your mouth.”

I smiled, turned, and got into the car.

Liam followed. He wiped his hands with an alcohol swab-several times.

Nathan ran over and pounded on the window.

“I’m sorry, Emma. I didn’t mean it. I know you’re not like that…”

I didn’t look at him. I told Liam to drive.

In the rearview mirror, I saw Jessica get out of another car with the baby in her arms. She walked over to

Nathan and said something. The baby reached for his father.

Nathan shook them both off.

I didn’t see what happened next.

Back home, Liam arranged for me to meet with a divorce attorney.

But the next day, Nathan reached out. He’d agreed.

My mother had convinced him.

If we divorced, Nathan would have no connection to her. She wouldn’t be a burden to her “good son-in-law”

anymore.

In exchange, she also agreed to go to the hospital for treatment.

Everyone got what they wanted.

When we walked out of the Family Court, Nathan seemed drained, like all the life had been sucked out of

him.

“Emma, I knew this day would come.”

“I’m sorry. I really am.”

I smirked.

“I’ll see you in court in a month for the final hearing. Don’t change your mind again.”
