IGNORED! HE ALWAYS SAVED HIS RIGHT EAR FOR HER Chapter 06

IGNORED! HE ALWAYS SAVED HIS RIGHT EAR FOR HER Chapter 06

After a four-hour flight, I landed at the airport in my hometown.

The sky was clear, and the weather was warm.

I got into a taxi heading home.

The driver chatted with me in a familiar local accent.

“Sweetheart, judging by the way you’re dressed, you must have come back from the city.”

I smiled.

“Yes.”

“When are you heading back?”

I looked out the window.

The familiar streets slipped by outside the window.

Then I softly said:

“I’m not going back.”

The moment I pushed open the front door, the comforting smell of home cooking filled the air.

“Mom, I’m home.”

Mom was still busy cooking in the kitchen.

When she heard my voice, she turned around.

“You must be exhausted from the trip.”

“Go wash your hands. Dinner’s ready.”

I stared at her busy figure.

Only then did I realize that, at some point, her back had started to bend.

My nose suddenly burned.

After Dad passed away, she had held this family together all by herself.

Back then, my heart and mind had been filled with nothing but work and Ethan.

All I wanted was to build a life with Ethan in the city.

I had completely forgotten about Mom.

The only family I had left.

During dinner, Mom barely touched her food.

She just smiled and watched me eat.

“Claire, this is your favorite lasagna.”

“And I added my own special seasoning to the creamy pasta.”

“You used to eat so much of it when you were little.”

Without saying it out loud, we both avoided talking about my relationship.

Neither of us brought Ethan up.

Then suddenly, the phone at home rang.

Mom glanced at me.

Then she walked over and answered it.

“It’s Ethan.”

She picked up.

“Mrs. Bennett, is Claire with you?”

“Yes.”

“My daughter is here with me.”

“That’s great!”

The man on the other end sounded relieved.

“Could you let me speak to her?”

“I have something I need to say.”

Mom didn’t look at me.

Her voice remained calm as she spoke into the phone.

“Claire and you have already broken up.”

“She wants some time alone now.”

“Ethan, you’re a good man. Mrs. Bennett will always appreciate everything you’ve done for Claire.”

“Mrs. Bennett, please.”

“Please give me a chance to explain everything to Claire.”

“Child…”

“Feelings can’t be forced.”

“I believe Claire isn’t someone who would make a scene for no reason.”

“Things have already gone this far.”

“Let’s all walk away with some dignity.”

The other end of the phone went silent.

No one spoke again.

Mom hung up.

After a moment, I quietly asked:

“Mom…”

“Aren’t you curious what happened between Ethan and me?”

“What if…”

“What if I’m the unreasonable one?”

“What if I’m just being selfish and making a scene?”

Mom smiled.

Her eyes were filled with tenderness.

“You’re my daughter.”

“Mom knows you better than anyone.”

“No matter what decision you make, I’ll support you.”

My nose suddenly felt sour.

And before I realized it, tears slipped down my face.

“Ethan helped us before.”

“He’s not a bad person deep down.”

“No matter what happens between you two, I hope you can talk things through properly.”

“Even if you have to separate…”

“Part ways peacefully.”

I nodded gently.

After that, my days slowly returned to normal.

Every morning, I went for walks with Mom.

Every night, we watched television and talked.

Little by little, the heaviness in my heart began to fade.

My body and mind slowly recovered.

I started helping Mom run our family convenience store.

For years, she had managed the small shop alone.

It had barely been staying afloat.

After I came back, I reorganized the shelves.

Updated the inventory with better-selling products.

And carefully managed every detail.

Slowly, the business started improving.

Just when I was finally stepping out of the shadow of that relationship…

Just when the wound in my heart was beginning to heal…

An unexpected visitor walked into the store.

“Claire!”

“I’m here!”

“I’m here to bring you home!”

“Ethan.”

“You were the one who gave up on this relationship first.”

His face flushed with anxiety.

But he couldn’t argue.

The next second, he suddenly stepped forward and pulled me into a hug.

His eyes filled with tears.

“Yes.”

“It was all my fault.”

“Claire, please…”

“Give me one more chance.”

After saying that, he suddenly remembered something.

He quickly pulled a photo out of his pocket and handed it to me.

It was a picture of a warm, simple home design.

“These past few days, I renovated our future home.”

“I changed everything to the bright colors you love.”

“Come back with me, Claire.”

“Let’s spend the rest of our lives in that house together.”

“Trust me.”

“We’ll be happy there.”

I stared at the photo for a long time.

Then I suddenly laughed silently.

So he had heard me all along.

He had seen what I wanted all along.

He knew exactly what I had been asking for.

He just hadn’t cared enough.

That was why he had ignored me again and again.
