“But after just three months, Mr. Hewitt personally suggested transferring her to the front desk.”

I stared at the promotion timeline on the screen without saying a word.

“If there was really something between her and me, why would I have arranged for her to be here on the very day you came to take over?”

I ignored him. I sat down on the sofa and started scrolling through my phone.

He froze for a moment. He probably thought I was just angry and needed some time to calm down.

Then he sat down beside me. His voice softened.

“Honey, you probably checked Lia’s employment records just now, right?”

Before he could finish, I had already dialed his mother’s number.

The call connected, and a familiar voice came through. “Janessa, what’s wrong?”

I smiled. “How’s that white watch I got you for your birthday working out?”

There was a brief silence on the other end. “What watch? Janessa, did you remember it wrong? What are you talking about?”

Only then did Briar realize what I was doing.

His expression changed instantly. He quickly reached for my phone. “Mom, did you forget? I gave it to you. I told you it was Janessa who bought it for you. Think carefully.”

I smiled. I took my phone back, ended the call, and looked at Briar.
