I Lost 90 Pounds, Only To Find He Tried To Give Me Away Chapter 01

Ninety pounds. That’s how much I changed my body, pushing myself harder than ever for someone I hadn’t even met.

Tomorrow was our first date..

But right now, I was staring at my screen, frozen.

[Giving away my online girlfriend before we meet IRL.]

[Been together over a year. Sweet voice, super caring, super supportive. DM if interested.]

Somebody in the comments asked why he’d give his girlfriend away like that.

He replied, [Looked her up online. She wasn’t what I expected, and looks matter to me.]

The replies piled up fast.

[Was kinda interested until I saw she was fat. Hard pass.]

[Who would be interested after seeing that? Hard pass.]

Only one person responded. [DM me.]

I clicked on the poster’s profile picture.

It was my boyfriend’s.

The post was three months old.

…

My whole body went numb.

Three months ago. That was when Nolan Ashford started acting weird.

He’d gone cold out of nowhere, even floated the idea of breaking up. Said he was losing interest.

I told myself it was just a phase. I begged him not to leave.

He stayed, but barely. Like he was doing me a favor.

Then he said he wanted a new Discord account. Too many old messages on the other one, he said. Fresh start for college.

So I followed the new one.

He was still distant for a while after that. And something about him felt different. Not just his mood—the way he talked.

Eventually, he warmed back up.

I’d convinced myself he’d just lost interest and come back around. It never once crossed my mind.

My phone buzzed.

A message from the cartoon boy avatar. His new account.

[Babe, I know you usually get terrible cramps around this time, so I ordered you a heating pad and some of that chocolate you like. Take care of yourself tonight, okay?]

[I can’t stop thinking about meeting you tomorrow. I’m so nervous lol. Are you excited too?]

I stared at the screen. My thumb hovered over the keyboard, frozen.

The guy I’d been talking to for the past three months.

Who was he?

Later, my best friend found me. She had that look—like she was sitting on a secret and dreaded telling me.

“Did you and Nolan break up?”

“What?”

She handed me her phone. “Just look.”

She’d stayed friendly with one of Nolan’s gaming buddies from back when we all used to play together.

He’d sent her screenshots from Nolan’s private group chat.

Someone had tagged Nolan.

[Nolan, how come you haven’t brought your girl online lately?]

[We broke up.]

The chat blew up.

[Wait what?? You guys seemed fine. What happened?]

[Her voice was so cute I figured she had to be hot. But one time she accidentally sent a photo with a shipping label in the frame, and I saw her name. Since I already knew her school, I got a buddy to look her up.]

[Turns out she’s almost 200 pounds. I was completely shocked. Looks matter to me. I couldn’t deal, so I cut her loose.]

Someone replied, [Lmaooo, no wonder her voice was so nice. Sometimes people can surprise you online.]

[Didn’t she basically worship you, though? She played pocket healer for you every match. No way she just let you walk.]

Nolan’s reply was casual. [She wouldn’t let go, so I just handed the account over to some other guy. She doesn’t even know my real name, so whatever.]

Then he dropped the link to the girlfriend-giveaway post.

[Bro WHAT. You literally gave her away like a used textbook.]

[Nolan, you’re unhinged lmao. At least she can’t stalk you now. She obviously hid what she looked like on purpose. No way you’d have stayed with her for a year if you’d known. She had it coming.]

[A whole year with a landwhale. Nolan, how are you not scarred for life?]

Nolan replied. [Already got my eye on someone new. There’s this girl in the freshman group chat. Super pretty, total sweetheart.]

Nolan’s family had money, and he was always gifting people skins and battle passes in the group chat.

So everyone kissed up to him.

[Classic Nolan. Already locked down a hottie.]

[King deserves a queen fr.]

[Drop a pic, bro. Let us see.]

Nolan sent a photo.

The girl in the photo wore a white sundress with a cardigan thrown over it. Her light hair was pulled into a loose side braid that fell over one shoulder. She was slim and radiant, with the kind of bright smile that made her eyes crinkle.

She really was pretty.

I recognized her right away. Sienna Whitlock, from the freshman group chat.

She’d posted a selfie in the group chat a while back, and every guy in there had tripped over himself calling her the campus It girl.

My best friend was furious.

“He was with you for over a year and just threw you away like that? Gave you to some random stranger? He’s such a piece of shit!”

“And honestly? Sienna’s not even that cute. She’s a total stick figure. She’s just a bit skinnier, that’s it!”

“Tessa, post a picture of yourself in the group chat. He’ll lose his mind.”

I didn’t say anything.

In the screenshots, only one person had spoken up for me.

[Dude, that girl was really into you, though. Every time you got ganked, she’d be the first one in to save you, and she’d always die for it. Don’t you think that’s kind of messed up?]

Nolan’s reply came a while later. Casual as anything.

[Looks matter to me. It is what it is. Every time I think about being with her for a whole year, I feel sick.]

[Not my fault she’s ugly.]
