My Fire Captain Husband Locked Me In To Attend Her Birthday Chapter 07

The next morning, the door opened. It wasn’t Dominic.

It was an Internal Affairs officer and two Millbrook PD detectives.

The lead officer held up his badge. “Mrs. Vance. We’re here to take your statement.”

Lenore stepped aside.

The IA officer sat down and got straight to it. “We’ve recovered the full department

communications, dispatch recordings, and CAD logs.”

“We can now confirm that Dominic Vance used his position to issue improper directives to

on-duty personnel, substantively disrupting emergency response protocol.”

He placed the printouts in front of me and read them aloud.

“Tonight my wife may act out. Any call from her, hold it back.”

“If she reports a fire, do not dispatch immediately.”

“Callback verify first. Ignore her for one night and she’ll learn,”

My fingers twisted into the sheets.

The officer continued. “The first dispatcher was preparing to send units. He stopped after

reading those instructions. We’ve also pulled the full 911 callback recording.”

“In addition to Mr. Vance, a second female voice explicitly told the operator not to send medical

response.”

Lenore cut in. “Did you confirm the voiceprint?”

One of the detectives looked up. “Matched to Tessa Fairchild. Ninety-eight-point-seven

percent confidence.”

The IA officer set his file down and looked at me. “Mrs. Vance, based on current evidence, Mr.

Vance is facing charges of interference with emergency operations, abuse of position to obstruct

coordinated response, and delayed rescue resulting in severe injury.”

“The department has already suspended him and initiated decertification proceedings. The

District Attorney’s office will decide on criminal filing based on the ongoing investigation.”

I nodded. “I want full accountability.”

He nodded back, serious. “This will not be handled quietly, ma’am.”

He paused. “For what it’s worth, the dispatcher and the shift supervisor will face consequences

as well.”

I stared at the printed words and my voice stayed level. “He didn’t make a mistake. He knew I

was begging for help and he told everyone to let me burn.”

The officer held my gaze for a long beat, then stood. “We’ll include that in the report.”

After they left, Lenore gathered up the files. “It’s starting.”

I looked down at the IV in my hand. “Not enough.”
