Rejected Three Years Ago, I Came Back as Luna Queen Chapter 04

Six years of silence. Three years ago, he sent a location—the mating ceremony site—followed by a single question mark. Then, nothing.

Until eight tonight, while I was still on the plane.

“Tomorrow at noon. I’m coming to your place.”

I hesitated before texting back. “Are you sure you want to go on a blind date with me?”

“You don’t want to?”

His reply came instantly. I was surprised he was still awake.

Guess even high-ranking Alphas don’t sleep early. No wonder they all end up with wrecked stomachs.

Brandon had them too. I wondered if my sister ever helped him manage the pain.

I stared at the screen, feeling no resistance. “It’s not that. I just don’t have high expectations.”

As soon as “typing…” appeared, I realized how much my words sounded like a rejection.

I wanted to fix it, but I was telling the truth.

Maybe I was just bitter about being forced into marriage.

A chime broke the silence. A new message popped up.

“Guess I’ll have to put on a good performance tomorrow. I’ll fight for a 1 out of 10 on Miss Olivia Voss’s expectation scale.”

A faint smile touched my lips.

“Good luck.”

The screen faded to black.

I turned off the light and stared at the ceiling. Coming back suddenly felt a little less suffocating.

The next morning, I woke up early to leave.

My mother called out from the dining room table.

“Where are you rushing off to without a word or breakfast?”

I turned around and noticed the family gathered around the table.

My parents sat on the left. Brandon and Emily sat opposite them, glued to each other.

At my mother’s scolding, Brandon glanced up.

His eyes met mine for a fraction of a second before dropping. He handed Emily a piece of buttered toast he had just sliced.

Emily smiled sweetly and kissed his cheek. “Thanks, hubby.”

As she ate, her eyes flicked to me, claiming her prize with a smug look.

“Just grabbing some stomach meds,” I said dryly.

Brandon’s fork scraped against his plate. The sharp noise echoed through the quiet dining room.

Emily glanced at him.

He acted unbothered, smiling warmly at her. “Done staring yet?”

She blushed, pouting as she dug into the toast he had cut for her.

My mother eyed me, her voice laced with cautious probing. “Are you sick?”

I shook my head. “No. It’s for a friend. He has a bad stomach.”

The sound of Brandon cutting his toast faltered for a second.

I turned away without looking back at him.

“Hold on!”

My father set down his newspaper and looked at me. “Your mother and I bought you an apartment in Blackthorn City. Move out tonight.”

“Your sister and her Alpha signed their mate contract. It’s awkward having you under the same roof.”

Everyone knew what he meant by “awkward.”

Emily’s face flushed bright red. “Dad! What are you telling her?”

My mother gave her a stern look. “Emily, stop defending her. Having a pup is your top priority right now. Your health is fragile as it is. Having your sister upstairs only puts a strain on your marriage.”

“Oh, Mom… don’t say that.”

Despite her protest, Emily sneaked several shy glances at Brandon.

Brandon set his cutlery down and wiped his mouth, his tone completely flat. “Alpha Theodore and Luna Ophelia can decide. It’s my fault for not taking better care of Emily.”

I nodded without hesitation. “Fine.”

The living room fell silent.

They hadn’t expected me to yield so easily, leaving their prepared speeches useless.

“Good. Pack your things tonight,” my mother stammered, trying to save face. “Besides, you’re not getting any younger. You need your own space if you’re going to date.”

“Are you dating someone?” Brandon asked suddenly.

I didn’t know how to answer, so I just said, “Kind of.”

If noon went well, that is.

“I’m leaving now.”

I turned and walked toward the garden. Behind me, Emily’s confused voice drifted over.

“Brandon, what are you looking at?”
