Rejected Three Years Ago, I Came Back as Luna Queen Chapter 03

Rejected Three Years Ago, I Came Back as Luna Queen Chapter 03

I arrived home near midnight the next day.

Having been gone for three years, the villa looked largely unchanged, except that the irises I had planted in the yard were gone, replaced by bright red roses with every single thorn meticulously stripped away.

The maid followed my gaze and offered a warm explanation.

“Alpha Vale planted those specifically for Miss Emily. He was afraid she’d prick herself when picking them, so he pares down any new thorns every morning before he leaves.”

I gave a quiet nod, withdrew my gaze, and stepped inside.

The living room was completely empty, just as I expected.

Assuming I was upset, the maid tried to reassure me, worried I might take it to heart.

“Miss Emily hasn’t been in good health, so her efforts at preparing for a pup keep failing, and she threw a bit of a tantrum today. Luna Ophelia and Alpha Theodore were exhausted after comforting her, so they went upstairs saying they’d change and wait for you, but fell asleep the moment they hit the bed.”

I offered her a gentle smile.

“It’s fine. Please help me take my luggage up to my room.”

She agreed with a quick nod and carried the bags upstairs.

Perhaps the noise was a bit loud, because when I reached the corner of the third floor, I bumped right into someone.

He wore a bathrobe with a slightly parted collar, his hair still damp with moisture.

I cast a glance at the glass of water in his hand and said nothing.

Given our history, I knew we were hardly at a point where we could meet and pretend nothing had ever happened.

I followed the maid and walked right past him.

Yet his eyes never left me.

My wrist tightened abruptly, forcing me to turn back, but under his intense gaze, I calmly yanked my hand free.

“Alpha Vale, this isn’t appropriate.”

His eyes flickered, and he withdrew his hand, clenching it into a fist at his side before letting go again.

After what felt like a long deliberation, he asked with an edge of caution, “Why are you back?”

I felt exhausted.

I couldn’t fathom why everyone believed he could instantly move on from me and fall for my sister, yet no one could believe I had let go of him in three years.

I lifted my head, about to speak, when the bedroom door behind him clicked open.

My sister stood there in a camisole nightgown, faint, suggestive marks left scattered across her collarbone.

“What took you so long?”

The moment she spotted me, her coquettish expression flipped into sheer shock.

“Olivia Voss? Why are you back?”

Noticing how close we were standing, she marched over in her slippers, grabbed Brandon’s arm, and yanked him back half a step.

“Throwing yourself at my Alpha the second you step through the door? Don’t tell me you’re still obsessed with him!”

That deafening interrogation prompted the master bedroom door on the second floor to burst open.

My parents hurried over in their pajamas, instantly moving to comfort my sister before turning their blame on me.

“You just got back, and the first thing you do is upset your sister?”

I rubbed my temples.

Exhausted from traveling through the night and nursing severe jet lag, I had no energy to waste on them.

“I just happened to run into him. Isn’t there security camera footage in the hallway? Feel free to check it yourselves. I’m going to bed.”

At the mention of security footage, their confrontational air abruptly deflated.

When we were kids, my sister used to stage accidents on the stairs whenever Brandon ignored her.

Because I stubbornly refused to take the blame, my parents installed hidden cameras to catch me red-handed.

Instead, they caught my sister faking a fall down the stairs to call for help.

Their expressions back then were priceless—avoiding my eyes, terrified to look at me, until they finally managed to blurt out under my steady stare: “Just don’t provoke your sister.”

Our chat history had been completely blank for six years, save for three years ago when he suddenly sent me a location pin for the mating ceremony venue followed by a single “?”.

As I opened my door, I heard Brandon’s calm voice drift up from downstairs.

“No need. I just happened to bump into her when getting a glass of water. She addressed me as Alpha, and then Emily walked out.”

The cold title hung in the air like frost, putting a century of distance between us.

I closed the door and collapsed onto the bed.

My phone chimed with a notification.

I unlocked it to see a message from a dark avatar labeled “Vincent Grayson.”
