She Took My Seat, He Took Her Side, I Took Another Man Chapter 03

Baby.

That word hit me like lightning, freezing me in place.

Nina curled into Dominic’s arms like a stray cat, one hand on her belly, dragging out the word “pregnant.”

“When did you get pregnant?” My teeth clenched. The white gloves in my hands were already crumpled.

Dominic’s face hardened. “Don’t listen to her nonsense. Get in the car. If she bothers you, I’ll send her away tomorrow.”

My tears fell without me even noticing, hitting the ground hard. Dad rushed forward and stepped in front of me, his tone stern. “My Sienna has been nothing but devoted to you—and you carry on with other women right in front of her?”

He barely took one step, and Dominic instinctively shielded Nina’s belly, pulling her closer.

I laughed bitterly and looked up at him. “Dominic, you’re a terrible liar. Send her away? Where—to a five-star hotel in Chicago to wait for the delivery?”

At that, he fell silent.

Last month, I’d seen a hotel booking in Chicago on his phone—the day after our wedding, with a note specifying “pregnancy-friendly service.” I thought he wanted a child for our honeymoon, so I started taking folic acid a month early, even giving up on the deals I’d fought for, turning down business dinners to get healthy for a baby.

Only now did I stupidly realize someone else was already in that spot.

My eyes swept over her belly. She was starting to show. Nina was still an intern, a college student who hadn’t even graduated yet. To shield her from gossip, he’d rushed to hide her away.

“What’s the matter? Can’t handle a baby in my belly? What if I told you that before he decided to marry you, Dominic signed a share transfer agreement—giving everything he owns to this child, so we’d never be left with nothing?”

She pressed harder with every word, the provocation in her eyes growing more brazen with each sentence.

My father went pale with rage. “You shameless—you think you can bully my Sienna? I’ll go to your school gate and shout that you seduced a married man! This old man’s got nothing to lose!”

He only said one line, but Nina stumbled backward. “Dominic… my stomach…”

The drizzle turned into heavy drops, thick as tears.

Dominic shot over and caught her. “Sienna, tell your father to shut his mouth and apologize. If he says one more bad word about Nina, don’t blame me for what I do. If something happens to her, how will I explain to her dad?”

I looked into his eyes. “Dominic. Whose dad?”

“Hers, obviously. She’s devoted to me—why shouldn’t I call her father Dad?”

“You’re playing word games, Sienna. One more time: have your father apologize, and get in the car.”

Two sentences, like the sudden downpour, doused every hope I’d held for seven years.

For this wedding, my parents had prepared forty thousand dollars as a wedding gift for Dominic. They’d saved and scrimped half their lives just to give him the two words that mattered most: respect and face. And now he’d just called strangers Mom and Dad.

I clenched my fists and stood my ground. “What if I say no?”

Dominic stared down at me, brows knit. “Fine. Everyone out. Smash this place until Nina’s happy—consider it my way of making it up to her.”
