His Childhood Sweetheart Erased Our Wedding-So I Married Someone Else Chapter 05

Gavin sat outside the bedroom door all night.

When I opened it the next morning, he was on the hallway floor, his eyes bloodshot.

The moment he saw me, he surged to his feet and grabbed my wrist.

“Tell me the truth. Who were you with last night?” His voice was almost gone.

“It has nothing to do with you anymore.”

I pulled free and went to the kitchen for a glass of water.

He followed me. In four years, he had never behaved like this.

“What do you mean it has nothing to do with me? Erin, don’t do this. If you’re unhappy with me, tell me. I’ll

change.”

I set down the glass and turned to face him.

“Gavin, I have never made a scene. For four years, you told me to wait, expected me to accept every decision you made, and demanded that I understand. I did all of it. But you never once asked whether I wanted any of

it.”

His mouth opened, but no words came out.

Then his phone rang.

It was Lila.

He moved to answer on instinct, but his finger hovered over the screen. After a long pause, he declined the

call.

It was the first time in four years that I had seen him reject one of Lila’s calls.

I felt nothing.

Four years ago, that one gesture might have moved me.

Now it was far too late.

“I’m not answering her anymore,” he said quickly. “Erin, we’ll go to the church right now. I’ll beg the pastor to perform the ceremony today.”

He reached for my hand and tried to pull me toward the door.

I tore my hand away.

Then I took the ceremony confirmation from my bag, unfolded it, and placed it on the table.

“There’s no need. I already booked a ceremony. I’m getting married at the church tomorrow.”

He lowered his eyes to the name on the form.

Noah.

All the color drained from his face.

“Noah? The Noah who’s always been in love with you?” His voice shook. “Erin, you’re doing this to punish

me.”

“This isn’t revenge.”

I took back the confirmation and put it away.

“It’s a choice.”

He swept the glass off the table. It smashed against the floor, scattering shards across the kitchen.

For the first time, he screamed at me. “You’re throwing away four years as if they meant nothing? Have you been with him all along?”

I stepped back and looked at him.

“You threw those four years away when you spent almost a month traveling with another woman. I didn’t abandon our relationship, Gavin. You did.”

He stood among the broken glass, his face white.

His lips moved several times, but nothing came out.

A few seconds later, he scrambled for another reason that might make me stay.

“Lily was having a depressive episode. I was afraid she would hurt herself. Nothing happened between us.

He stepped toward me and tried to pull me into his arms.

I moved aside.

His face tightened, and his hand hung uselessly in the air.

“I thought you would understand,” he said, pleading now. “I thought you would never leave me over something

like this.”

your sake.”

For four years, I had spent countless nights forcing myself to excuse him.

Every holiday he abandoned me and every hospital visit I endured alone had stripped away another piece of my love.

“Noah is different. He won’t keep me waiting forever, and he won’t put me last again and again. The day my fever reached 102 degrees, he drove to several all-night pharmacies until he found the medicine I needed,

then brought it to my apartment.”

Gavin stared at me, finally realizing I had made this decision long before he noticed I was leaving.

“So you had already decided, hadn’t you?”

His voice trembled, and his eyes turned red.

“You made the decision for me every single time you chose Lila.”

I looked at him calmly. There was nothing left in me for him.

I bent down, gathered the broken glass, and dropped it into the trash. Then I walked past him.

As I reached the door, he shouted, “Erin, you’ll regret this. Marrying him won’t make you happy.”

I walked out without looking back.

The moment the door closed, I heard him kick over a chair.

Then his phone rang again.

I knew it was Lila.

Whether he answered her this time had nothing to do with me anymore.
