Unlocked His Phone, Divorced Him Chapter 06

Unlocked His Phone, Divorced Him Chapter 06

Ethan went back to find Evelyn.

When she came downstairs and saw him, her face lit up—with delight, and something else underneath. A quiet, knowing triumph she couldn’t quite hide.

“Ethan! Did you come to stay with me?”

Ethan cut straight to it, his voice flat, almost emotionless.

“Evelyn. Have you seen the company group chats?”

Evelyn froze for a second. “No, I haven’t. What?”

His gaze cut into her like a blade—cold, scrutinizing, unflinching.

“Those messages about us. You planted them, didn’t you?”

Shock and hurt flashed across Evelyn’s eyes in an instant. She stumbled back half a step, her eyes welling up on command.

“Ethan—how could you think that of me?”

“I just got back. I barely know anyone here. I started at your company today. How could I possibly have coordinated with coworkers to spread those rumors?”

“What do I even stand to gain from this?”

Ethan’s brow twitched. He’d caught the crack in her story.

“Evelyn. You said you hadn’t seen the chats.”

“Then how did you know what I was talking about?”

She recovered fast.

“I…just glanced at it. How was I supposed to know that’s what you were asking about?”

Then she bit her lower lip lightly, her voice turning even more wounded—but she smoothly pivoted the conversation.

“And Ethan, if you’re going to suspect me—why not suspect Claire?”

“She was the one who was furious tonight. She threw wine in your face in front of everyone. She didn’t care about your dignity—or your reputation.”

“Ethan, I hope you don’t take this the wrong way—but the woman you chose? She’s not worthy of someone like you.”

“Enough!” Ethan’s voice cut through, sharp and cold—his face tight with impatience. “Evelyn, Claire isn’t the person you’re making her out to be.”

“Tonight was a misunderstanding. I’ll go talk to her and sort it out.”

“As for those rumors…”

Evelyn’s performance was flawless—every ounce of a woman wronged.

Ethan held her gaze for a few long seconds. He still had his doubts, but he couldn’t pin anything on her.

He rubbed his temples, exhausted, shoving down the mess of emotions.

“I’ll make an official statement tomorrow. Clear everything up.”

He was sure of it—Claire must’ve seen those messages. That’s why she tore up the tickets. Blocked him. Ignored his calls.

Then the company-wide group chat pinged.

「Holy shit. I just went to Mr. Ethan’s office to drop off some files—and guess what I found!」

Attached: a resignation letter.

And a divorce agreement.

Signed: Claire.

The person who posted it realized right away they’d sent it to the wrong chat and tried to delete it.

Too late.

「Wait, did I read that right? Mr. Ethan and Claire?」

「Hold on—didn’t Mr. Ethan hate her more than anyone?」

「When did those two get married? They hid it so well!」

「So Claire’s the real Mrs. Whitmore? Then what does that make Evelyn?」

「That explains why Claire snapped tonight and threw wine in his face…」

The message landed like a bomb. Even the employees who never said a word came out of the woodwork.

The chat was going crazy—messages flying up the screen nonstop.

But Ethan stood frozen—like someone had hit pause.

His mind went blank. Just a loud, ringing silence.

The next day, the gossip had spread through the entire company.

Evelyn dragged herself to work, walking through a gauntlet of pointed stares and barely concealed contempt.

She walked into the break room—and the group of coworkers who’d been laughing went dead silent. Then, without a word, they scattered.

Someone even deliberately raised their voice as she passed:

“Look at her. Homewrecker. Walks in here like she belongs. She knew he was married—didn’t care. Went after him anyway. And now she’s got the audacity to act like the victim? Unbelievable.”

Evelyn turned pale, barely holding herself together. “Ethan and I have known each other for years—Claire was the one who—”

One of the more outspoken women shot back, dripping with disdain.

“Known each other for years? So what? She’s his wife—legally. For real.”

“That makes you a homewrecker. Plain and simple.”

Evelyn was completely speechless. Tears welled in her eyes.

She couldn’t take it anymore. She ran straight to Ethan’s office, covering her face, sobbing.

She pushed the door open, her voice trembling. “Ethan—they can’t say that about me, I—”

Before she could finish, she stopped cold.

Ethan sat behind his desk, his face dark as a storm. His hands were gripped so tight around a stack of papers that his knuckles went white.

He looked like he hadn’t slept at all. Like he’d spent the whole night searching for me.

Until this moment, he’d finally understood.

I wasn’t throwing a tantrum. I wasn’t playing hard to get.

I was really—truly—done with him.

His chest tightened—like an invisible hand had reached inside him, grabbed his heart, and twisted. Hard. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t straighten up.

He called my number over and over. The only response was the same cold, robotic voice:

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable…”

Evelyn was still crying, her face streaked with tears. “Ethan, I—”

He didn’t have the patience to comfort her. He just snapped, “Shut up!”

Desperate and out of options, he remembered my lawyer friend.

“Did you draw up the divorce papers for Claire?”

“So what?”

“Where is she.”

Natalie let out a bitter laugh. *Ethan, you piece of shit. You have the nerve to call me? To ask me that?*

“You haven’t destroyed her enough? Let me make this clear—you will never find her. Never. Now screw yourself and lose my number. Fuck off!”

She hung up without waiting for a response.

All he heard was dead air.

His face went pale—almost ashen.

A week later, his assistant came knocking. *”We found her, Mr. Ethan.”*
