My Sister’s Forbidden Love For My Fiancé Chapter 11

My Sister’s Forbidden Love For My Fiancé Chapter 11

Edmund stepped out from the shadow of a streetlamp.

Every step looked like he was walking on broken glass-body pitched forward, gait unsteady, as if one pause

would send him crumbling to the ground.

He stopped about three yards away from Arthur and me. His eyes landed on the blue velvet box in Arthur’s hand first, then slowly, inch by inch, moved to my face.

His lips twitched into a smile.

It was worse than crying.

“Rowena.”

His voice came out rough, every word scraped raw.

Arthur stood up, slipped the ring into his pocket, and stepped sideways to block me.

Not too fast, not too slow, like he was protecting me without trying to own me.

Edmund’s gaze slid past Arthur and landed back on me, as if the other man didn’t exist.

He took a step forward. Arthur put an arm out to stop him. Edmund’s shoulder hit Arthur’s forearm, and he swayed-like a dead leaf that would fall apart in the next gust.

He didn’t fight back. He just let that arm stay across his chest, his eyes never leaving me.

“Rowena. Come back with me. Please.”

The crowd of cheering students had gone quiet. Some pulled out their phones. Others whispered among

themselves.

Late-afternoon light fell across the cobblestones, bright enough to catch on the worn cuffs and frayed collar

of his old coat.

“I’ll give you everything I have.”

“The company. The houses. Every account, every share, every last thing.” “You don’t even have to want it. I’ll still give it to you.”

“I’ve realized… you’ve always been the one I truly love.”

After those words hit the ground, the silence held for a few seconds.

I stood behind Arthur’s shoulder and looked at Edmund.

My heartbeat was calm.

I lifted my left hand. The platinum ring Arthur had just placed there caught the light. A narrow ring of light stipped through and flickered in my palm

“Edmund,” I said, not loud, but clear as glass. “This is my fiancé. Arthur.”

Edmund’s pupils contracted sharply. His breathing turned ragged and heavy, his chest heaving. His whole body began to shake.

He screamed at me, voice cracking, shrill, as if he was burning the last of his strength.

“You love me, Rowena! You’ve been running after me since we were kids! You’ve always loved me! How can

you marry someone else!”

Arthur shifted, pulling me tighter behind him. He bent his head and murmured softly in my ear, “Do you

want me to send him away?”

I shook my head.

I moved out from behind Arthur, and stood in front of Edmund.

He looked up at me. I looked down at him.

He dropped to his knees.

Whether his legs gave out or he did it to look up at me, I don’t know. His knees cracked against the cobblestones. His fingers dug into the gaps between the stones, knuckles white.

He curled in on himself, a stray dog drenched in a downpour, trembling, waiting for someone to hold an

umbrella over him.

I looked at him. My voice came out soft,

“Edmund. I loved you once.”

“I gave you my whole youth.”

“And you crushed it.”
