My Sister’s Forbidden Love For My Fiancé Chapter 09

My Sister’s Forbidden Love For My Fiancé Chapter 09

I couldn’t move. Something heavy pinned my legs. My left arm was useless. Only my right fingers could twitch slightly.

Oxygen was being pulled out of me, molecule by molecule.

My consciousness started to blur.

Baby.

I opened my mouth, only to find snow filling my throat. No sound came out.

I’m so sorry, baby.

Then nothing.

I woke up inside a snow cave.

A cashmere coat was draped over me, and beneath it, a thermal rescue blanket. Someone held me in their arms. I turned my head and saw Arthur’s face.

His lips were purple with cold. His breath puffed white against my forehead. A thin layer of frost clung to his

lashes.

“…Rowena?”

I opened my mouth. My throat burned like fire. Not a single word came out-so I just lifted my hand and

touched his.

He dropped his head, pressing his forehead against the top of mine. His whole body shuddered once.

Then I heard him cry.

Later, when the rescue team dug us out, I found out what had happened. Arthur had followed the hiking group all the way to the base camp that day. He hadn’t signed up. He hadn’t told anyone/He’d just driven up after we left, planning to surprise me when I came down.

At the base camp, he’d heard the avalanche come through on the radio.

He found me next to a boulder, wrapped me in his coat, and dragged me out from under nearly two feet of snow. Carried me down the mountain himself.

The hospital room was blindingly white. The smell of antiseptic was so thick it made my head spin.

I lay on the bed, my left arm in a cast, my right leg wrapped in bandages. My body had warmed up, but my fingers were still cold.

Arthur sat in the chair beside the bed, asleep.

I watched him. Something in my chest loosened-like a frozen lake finally cracking with a soft snap.

He woke up and caught me staring. He jolted upright, then forced a smile.

“Maybe next time, pick a safer way to celebrate?”

I tried to smile. My lips twitched-and then the tears came, without warning. I lay there sobbing, gasping

for air.

“Rowena, what’s wrong? Does it hurt? I’ll get the doctor.”

I cut him off between sobs.

“Arthur.”

“Yeah?”

“Let’s be together.”

He froze. Stiff as a statue. Then he bent down, brushed the stray hair off my forehead, and pressed the lightest kiss there.

I said, “Arthur. Do you want to know about me?”

“Tell me,” he said. “I’m listening.”

That night, we sat in his car for a long time.

I started from the beginning.

How my father brought my younger sister home from the orphanage.

How Edmund and I grew up together, fifteen years of fighting and laughing.

The future video I received three days before the wedding. What I saw through the closet door. The way

r Edmund had mentioned the abortion so casually in the study.

As I spoke, I realized I was calm. The images that once had me retching over the toilet, the moments that twisted my stomach into knots, now they felt like someone else’s story.

Every time I paused to catch my breath, Arthur held my hand, his thumb stroking the back of it slowly. He

didn’t interrupt once.

He was quiet for a long time after I finished.

Then he let go, unbuckled his seatbelt, and pulled me into his arms. His chin rested on the top of my head, his arms tight enough that I could feel his heartbeat through his chest.

His voice came down from above, steady and solid.

“Rowena,” he said, “it’s all in the past.”

I stayed there, eyes stinging, but didn’t cry.

The next morning before he left, he left a glass of warm milk and a note on the table. Two lines, neat and

clean.

[Some debts need collecting. Have a good rest. be back.]

I didn’t think much of it.

Arthur was meticulous, a man who could take care of all the loose ends.
