You Kept the Don’s Daughter Waiting and Now She’s Someone Else’s Chapter 08

Back then, Luca had been nice to me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have loved him.

He was gentle, patient. He remembered my coffee order, just a touch of sugar. He’d go to the library with me, pick me up with an umbrella on rainy days.

I thought that was love.

So I told Damon, “I’m sorry.”

Damon looked at me for a long time.

So long I thought he’d get angry.

But he just smiled.

“Okay. I won’t get in your way. But Nina, if you ever change your mind, just look back.”

I thought it was just a boy’s jest.

I didn’t think he’d actually stand there, waiting. All this time..

The car was quiet for a moment.

I spoke softly.

“But Damon, marriage isn’t a joke.”

“I know.”

He leaned back in his seat, and there was almost a hint of pride in his voice.

“That’s why I’ve already got the venue, the officiant, the dress, the guests, the witnesses, everything set.”

I blinked. “You prepared all that?”

“Mm. I said I was going to crash a wedding. Had to be ready for anything.”

I looked at him and couldn’t help it. I laughed.

Then I was laughing and crying at the same time.

Damon reached over and brushed the corner of my eye with his thumb.

So light, like he was afraid to smudge my makeup.

“Nina. No tears today. Today, all you have to be is the bride.”

Meanwhile, back at the Conti estate.

The fireworks had stopped, bill the smell of gunpowder still hung in the air.

Luca stood at the end of the red carpet, staring at the spot where Damon’s convoy had disappeared, like he hadn’t quite processed what just happened.

He’d only been a few minutes late.

He’d only waited for Coral to fix her makeup.

How was Nina gone?

How was the wedding not his anymore?

He didn’t get it.

He really didn’t.

Just last night, Nina had texted him, asking what time he’d arrive, telling him to be on time or her father

would be upset.

The church was packed with relatives and friends they’d invited. Even the Five Families had shown up.

In just a few hours, Nina would have been his wife.

But she’d just left with Damon. Didn’t even look back.

Luca tried to chase after her, but Nina’s relatives blocked him solid.

“Move.”

His voice came out hoarse.

“I need to go get Nina.”

The Don of the Conti family stood in front of him, his face cold

“Don’t bother.”

Luca’s fists clenched.

“Dad, I know I was wrong. I can apologize. Just let them go! I’ll bring her back.

Mr. Conti looked at him, disappointment carved into every line of his face.

“Luca. Don’t call me Dad. The alliance is off.”

Luca’s throat moved.

Mr. Conti cut him off.

“Our family doesn’t have a son-in-law like you.

That hit harder than everything else. Luca went pale.

“Mr. Conti. Nina and I have seven years together. You can’t end it over something this small-”

“Small?”

Mr. Conti let out a bitter laugh.

“My daughter gets married once in her life. But you made her stand there in her wedding dress, in front of half the family, waiting for another woman to fix her eyeliner.”

“She asked you again and again, but you still chose that woman, Luca, in your eyes, that’s small?”

Luca opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

He wanted to explain.

To say he didn’t mean it that way.

To say Coral was just fixing her makeup, that there was nothing between them.

But even to his own ears, those words sounded hollow.

That was when Coral finally came down. Her makeup done at last.

She was holding Luca’s phone.

“Luca, your phone’s been ringing off the hook.”

She handed it to him, her face still pinched with displeasure.

“What happened? I heard Nina ran off with some other guy!”
