The Neglected Girl Chosen by the Moon Goddess Chapter 09

The Neglected Girl Chosen by the Moon Goddess Chapter 09

They tried to brush it off. “You’re overthinking it. We’ve never treated you like you don’t matter.”

“All four of you knew about the new house.”

Dad paused. “I told you-I didn’t have a chance to tell you.”

“Dad. Six months. A hundred and eighty days. Not one of them was good enough?”

He had nothing to say.

Mom snatched the phone back, furious. “Why are you digging up old grudges? Are you trying to kill us with

stress?”

Lily’s voice cracked through, tearful. “Sis, it’s all my fault. Please stop.”

I felt drained. But also relieved.

I’d finally said it.

Exhaustion hit me again without warning. My wolf was growing weaker. Those fake displays of affection

and fragile bonds were slowly disappearing.

I hung up.

Moon Goddess, give me and Snow enough strength not to fall apart from abandoning the Pack and my

family.

Half an hour later, Ethan came back. He had takeout.

“Eat.”

I looked at him for a long moment. “I know you. You’re the engineer from the company next door.”

He smiled. “You finally figured it out. We’ve run into each other at least five times, Miss Elara.”

I felt my face warm and looked down at the food.

That faint, nameless feeling was slowly becoming clear.

Mate.

The Moon Goddess really answered quickly. Was she afraid I’d break down, so she immediately gave me a

new bond?

We grew close after that. Ethan had been in Mexico for three years. He knew so much more than I did.

In his free time, he taught me Spanish. We watched movies, played tennis.

Mexico had endless sun, cafes, museums.

On weekends, we’d drive to remote spots and shift, letting our wolves run free.

Compared to my old life-busy but empty-I felt like a hamster in a rich enclosure, slowly discovering joy.

Ethan was always behind me with his camera, capturing it all.

In just two months, I had more photos than in my twenty-four years before.

He looked at me curiously when I said that. “Why?”

I moved my eyes from the photo to his face. “Because they didn’t really like me.”

Something flickered in his gaze.

I used to be afraid of that look. But now, I could accept it. Pity. Care.

He pulled me into a hug-simple, comforting. “It’s okay. I like you. I’ll like you more than anyone ever has.”

I smiled and wrapped my arms around him.

My wolf was dancing.

Right as the moment felt perfect, Lucas called.

Two months. They’d thought I’d cave and apologize like always.

They never got it.

Mom’s been crying. Dad barely talks. Don’t you feel anything?

Their wolves have been unstable.

Still, his opening line was to blame me.

I sighed. “What do you want me to say?”

His voice was different this time. Uncertain. “Elara… do you hate us?”

“I don’t hate you.”

“Then why did you go so far away?”

“Because I resent you.”

He went quiet.

“Lucas, why am I also your sister, but treated so differently from Lily? Sometimes I wonder why Mom even had me.”
