The Neglected Girl Chosen by the Moon Goddess Chapter 07

The Neglected Girl Chosen by the Moon Goddess Chapter 07

When I landed in Mexico, the company had a car waiting.

My colleagues’ phones all buzzed at once-their families checking in on them.

They smiled through the whole ride. Excited, curious, eagerly sharing everything they saw with their loved

ones.

Nina, sitting beside me, finished her call and turned. “Elara, you’re so independent. Aren’t your parents worried about you?”

I stared out the window. After a pause, I smiled. “No.”

Nina blinked, then moved on to another topic.

The next day, we went to the factory and started learning the ropes. A week in, we were getting comfortable.

But our supervisor warned us: some areas were off-limits. Don’t go out at night. Don’t carry valuables. The

area wasn’t the safest.

But the pay was good. Lots of opportunity.

Maybe soon I’d have my own little place.

On the eighth day, my parents were on their way home. Lily was chattering in the group chat, playfully

complaining about Dad.

“This guy was so hot! He asked for my number, but Dad wouldn’t let me give it. What a dinosaur!”

Lucas sent a helpless emoji. “You’re a girl in a foreign country. You don’t know what those men are really

thinking. I wouldn’t allow it either.”

“But I’m twenty-three!”

“Even if you were thirty-three, boyfriends go through us first!”

Lily sent a crying emoji. “You guys are impossible.”

“Hehe, we’ll be home in half an hour. I bought so many gifts. You can have first pick.”

Lucas was quiet for a moment. “I don’t need anything. Get something for Elara. She’s been working hard. We

haven’t seen her in a while.”

“Didn’t she say she didn’t want anything?”

Lily sent that, then immediately deleted it.

A few seconds later, she sent an “okay.”

I put my phone away. Two hours later, almost everyone had left the office. I finished up and headed out.

It was starting to get dark. The area was fairly safe, so I wasn’t too worried.

But a few minutes out, I sensed someone behind me.

Before I could turn, a hard yank tore my bag off my shoulder. The strap caught my neck and dragged me

down hard onto the ground.

My wolf went on high alert. She wanted to take over.

But I held her down and screamed for help as loud as I could. In the human world, you followed their rules. Otherwise, the Wolf Management Bureau would send Hunters.

The homeless man kicked me in the stomach. I curled up in pain.

Then a man charged in and decked him with one punch. The homeless man scrambled away, terrified.

“You okay?”

I tried to say I was fine, but the pain hit me all at once, and I passed out.

I was weak. That made sense-I’d cut myself off from all blood ties. My wolf would need a long time to

recover.

When I woke, I was in a human hospital. I wasn’t supposed to be there. My wolf anatomy might cause a

commotion.

The man who’d saved me was working at a desk nearby. He looked up the moment I stirred. So sharp.

He smiled. “Don’t worry. I told them not to run any tests. Just gave you some glucose.”

I blinked, and slowly caught his scent.

Wolf. Not a human.
