When the Forgotten One-Eyed Luna Rises Chapter 07

When the Forgotten One-Eyed Luna Rises Chapter 07

More than a month later, after class ended that day, Belly pulled me out to buy coffee.

When we reached the school gate, I saw Mom, Dad, Logan, Xander, and Skylar waiting outside, surrounded

by piles of gifts, from new phones and computers to clothes, skincare products, and several beautifully

wrapped boxes.

I had received gifts from them before too, but they were always things they no longer wanted, such as hair clips Skylar had outgrown, gaming consoles Logan had grown tired of playing with, or a scarf Xander had

bought in the wrong size.

They always said, “We gave it to you already. Why are you still unhappy? Why are you so hard to please?”

Now, they had finally brought brand-new things. But I no longer wanted them.

When Mom saw me, tears immediately fell from her eyes, “Daisy.”

She hurried over and reached for my hand. I stepped back.

Her hand froze in midair.

That movement was something she had done to me before.

After I first lost my sight, I was always afraid of walking alone.

I wanted to hold her hand.

But she avoided me and said, “Don’t rely on others for everything.”

Now it was my turn to avoid her. Her face turned pale.

Dad stayed silent for a long time before finally speaking, “Daisy, we came to take you home. Back to the

pack.”

I looked at him, “This is my school, I’m not going back.”

Logan lowered his head and handed me a tablet, “You need this for class. I was wrong before.”

I didn’t take it, “I already bought one.”

His fingers froze.

Xander had been staring at my left eye.

His voice was soft, “Daisy, did you replace your prosthetic eye?”

I nodded, “The school helped me contact a hospital.”

He couldn’t say anything.

Mom cried even harder, “Why didn’t you tell Mom?”

I looked at her, “Tell you what? So you could tell me that as long as it covered it, it was fine?”

“What would have been the point?”

Her entire body stiffened. Her lips moved slightly, but no words came out.

Skylar stood at the back. She had lost a lot of weight and looked exhausted.

Seeing that I still hadn’t acknowledged her, she finally couldn’t hold back, “Daisy, do you really have to destroy

me?”

I looked at her, “Skylar, you got it wrong. I’m not destroying you. I just finally stopped saving you.”

Her face instantly turned pale, “But I was only ten years old back then. Why can’t you forgive me?”

I looked at her, “When you played that piano afterward, were you still ten years old?”

She opened her mouth. But no words came out.

Xander suddenly spoke in a low voice, “Skylar, stop.”

Skylar looked at him in disbelief, “You’re taking her side too?”

Xander didn’t answer. He only looked at me, “Daisy, I went to the old pack house. I saw the duty logbook too.

I didn’t know what really happened back then until now. I’m sorry.”

Those three words were something I had waited eight years to hear.

But they never said them.

They only said: “Skylar was already scared enough. Don’t upset her.”

Now that Xander finally said it, I only felt unfamiliar, “Xander, an apology isn’t a time machine. After you say

it, my eye won’t come back.”

His face turned frighteningly pale.

Soon, the school security guards arrived.

My mentor, Mrs. Holt, also came to the school gate.

She stepped in front of me and spoke politely but firmly, “Everyone, please don’t disturb the students.”

Mom still wanted to say something.

I interrupted her, “Don’t come again. You’ll only affect me.”

Then I turned around and walked through the school gate.

Behind me, I heard Mom’s restrained sobs.

I also heard Xander calling my name, “Daisy, can I still wait for you?”

I didn’t turn around. Whether he waited or not had nothing to do with me anymore.

Belly caught up with me and asked carefully, “Are you okay?”

I took the coffee she handed me and smiled as I shook my head.

“I’m fine.”
