When the Forgotten One-Eyed Luna Rises Chapter 01

When the Forgotten One-Eyed Luna Rises Chapter 01

When I was ten years old, my younger sister locked me in a room after I got injured.

By the time my parents found me, my left eye had lost its sight because I had missed the best time for treatment. My wolf fell silent because of it too.

After that, my parents and my brother, Logan, never looked at Skylar the same way again. They tried to make up for everything they thought they had taken from me.

Mom accompanied me to every follow-up appointment. Dad drove me to and from school every day. Logan chased away the members of our pack who mocked me.

My mate, Xander, the Alpha of the neighboring pack, held my hand and told me again and again, “Daisy, I’ll be your eyes from now on.”

I had always believed that they truly cared about me.

Until the day we filled out our college applications.

Skylar cried and said she wanted to be in the same city as Logan and Xander, hoping she could start over.

I chose a university in the North for her.

“That school is pretty good. It’s the best wolf academy she can get into.”

The dining table fell silent for a long time.

Then Mom suddenly looked at me with red eyes, “I don’t agree.”

“We haven’t given Skylar a proper birthday for eight years. We haven’t attended a single parent-teacher meeting for her. We didn’t even dare to buy her new clothes or gifts during Christmas.”

“Daisy, you only lost one eye, but what she lost was eight whole years of love and care from us.”

Logan lowered his voice and said, “We have spent eight years making it up to you. Why can’t you let her go?”

Alpha Xander lowered his gaze, his voice quiet, “She just wants a chance to start over too.”

The application form in my hand slowly crumpled.

Mom looked at me with tears in her eyes, “Do you really want Skylar to live in guilt for the rest of her life before you’ll be satisfied?”

That night, I changed Skylar’s application back to Evendell and canceled my promise with Xander.

After I finished, a folder suddenly appeared on Logan’s computer screen.

[Skylar’s Eight Years of Compensation]

I stared at those words for a long time. Then, almost without thinking, I clicked on it.

The first photo was taken on the third day after I lost my sight and was hospitalized.

It was at a seaside hotel.

Skylar wore a birthday crown and sat in front of a three-tier cake. Mom held her in her arms, her eyes slightly red.

The caption read: [Skylar has suffered enough. Her birthday has to be made up for.]

Dad stood beside them, holding a brand-new camera. Logan had given her the latest gaming console. Xander stood behind her, lighting the fireworks for her.

Everyone in the photo was smiling. Everyone except me.

Because on that exact same day, I was lying alone in a hospital bed at the pack hospital. My left eye was wrapped in thick gauze, and the pain kept me awake all night.

I had called Mom and asked if she could come stay with me for a while.

Her voice over the phone had sounded exhausted, “The whole family is already a mess because of what happened to you. Just be more understanding.”

At that time, I had even felt guilty. I thought I was the reason everyone was suffering.

But I was wrong. They were just busy comforting the person they truly cared about.

I continued scrolling.

The birthday cake they claimed they had taken away became an even more expensive private party.

The parent-teacher meetings they said no one attended became family days where Logan and Xander took turns asking for time off to be there for her.

The new clothes they claimed they couldn’t afford for Christmas were hidden under another department store membership account.

In every photo, Skylar was smiling sweetly. In every photo, Mom, Dad, and Logan were there. So was Xander.

The day I went for my left eye examination, the pack doctor suggested getting me a better prosthetic eye. The new one would fit better and prevent further damage to my eye socket.

Mom had frowned, “It’s useless. She can’t see anyway. As long as it covers it, that’s enough.”

But on that very same day, she bought Skylar a necklace worth sixty-eight thousand dollars.

In the photo, Skylar lowered her head as she tried it on. Mom gently fixed her hair and wrote:

[Skylar deserves the best.]

I stared at those words. Suddenly, my right eye burned with pain. My left eye had no feeling anymore.

Only my right eye hurt so much that it felt like it was about to burst.

Xander had promised to give me a Braille watch. He said that since I couldn’t see the time clearly anymore, he would remember it for me.

I waited for three years, but I never got that watch.

But in the album, I found that he had customized an entire wall of starry night lights for Skylar.

The note said: [Skylar is afraid of the dark. She wakes up scared at night.]

After I lost my sight, I was afraid of the dark too. I carried that fear for eight years, yet no one ever cared.

Suddenly, footsteps sounded outside the door.

Logan rushed in with a deep frown, “Daisy, are you crazy? You’re going through someone else’s private files?”

I looked up at him, “Private? Or is this the act you all put on for me and forgot to delete properly?”

Logan froze.

Mom and Dad rushed over as well.

When Mom saw the photos on the screen, all the color slowly drained from her face.

But soon, she spoke again, “We were just afraid that Skylar would do something stupid.”

Dad looked at me coldly, “You’ve already been compensated for eight years. Don’t be so greedy.”

Greedy.

So wanting a single honest answer from them was considered greedy.

Xander stood at the doorway. His eyes fell on my reddened right eye. His fingers moved slightly, as if he wanted to walk over.

But Skylar suddenly cried and hid behind him, “Does Daisy hate me again?”

Xander’s hand stopped in midair.

In the end, it still landed on Skylar’s shoulder.
