A Figure Skating Queen Who Can’t Be Lifted But I Was Born To Fly Chapter 08

The first half of their program went smoothly enough.

But when they hit the first throw jump, everything fell apart.

Ethan threw too hard, and Scarlett Brown, her core hollowed out by weeks of extreme dieting, had all the structural integrity of wet paper.

In the air, her axis collapsed completely.

A sickening thud echoed through the arena speakers.

Scarlett Brown crashed onto the ice and slid a long way before stopping.

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

Ethan’s face went white. He rushed over to pull her up.

Scarlett Brown was dazed from the impact, struggling several times before she could even stand. From that

point on, the entire program unraveled. Mistake after mistake after mistake.

By the end, they couldn’t even hit their closing pose in unison.

When the scores came up, Ethan bit down so hard his jaw ached, his eyes hollow with despair.

Dead last.

No chance at Sectionals.

“Next on the ice: independent athlete, Chloe Hart.”

The announcer’s voice rang out again.

The arena went quiet for a beat.

Independent athlete? No club affiliation?

I took a deep breath and glided to center ice.

The lights dimmed. A single spotlight found me.

The music began.

Not a delicate piano piece. A sweeping, thunderous orchestral score.

I closed my eyes and felt the blade become part of the ice beneath me.

First element. Triple Axel.

No hesitation. No holding back.

I drove into the ice and launched.

Perfect hang time. Perfect rotation.

The blade kissed the surface, and a ring of fine ice crystals sprayed outward.

The crowd erupted.

This was only the beginning.
