My Love Inappropriate. Her Scandal Take the Blame. Get Lost, Uncle! I Married the Mad Alpha! Chapter 02

The moment the door closed, the smile vanished from my face.

My adoptive mother looked at me, the pain in her eyes impossible to hide.

“Cry if you need to. You don’t have to pretend to be strong in front of me.”

I did not cry. I walked over and took her hand instead.

“The Carter family has cared for me for twenty years, and I’ve never forgotten what you’ve all done for me. I heard the family wants to work with the Morettis but has never found a way to establish a connection. I’m willing to accept their marriage proposal and marry Damian Moretti.”

Her expression changed at once.

“Do you know what people say about Damian? He’s the most uncontrollable young Alpha in the Moretti family. They say he’s brooding and volatile, and that when his wolf loses control, even his own family is afraid to approach him. You’d be gambling your entire life.”

I kept hold of her hand and reassured her calmly.

“Those are only rumors. Besides, don’t people call me insane too? I’m an adopted daughter with no powerful bloodline, yet I wanted my guardian all to myself and drove away every woman who came near him. The Moretti family wants a long-term partnership, and a marriage alliance is the most direct way to secure it. You and Dad gave me a home. I want to do something that truly benefits the Carter family in return.”

My adoptive mother studied me for a long time before gently stroking my hair.

“All right. If this is truly your decision, I’ll contact the Morettis. They’ll come for you in two weeks.”

How ironic.

What perfect timing. My wedding and Adrian’s engagement gala were set for the very same day.

My adoptive mother immediately began discussing a prenuptial trust and arrangements for my shares, but I cut her off.

“I don’t need anything. And don’t tell Adrian yet. I don’t want him to think I’m using the marriage to force him to choose or trying to sabotage his engagement to Sofia.”

She sighed and pulled me into her arms.

She did not notice me close my eyes against her shoulder and promise myself that, from that day forward, I would never again pin any hope on the man whose scent was cedar.
