After returning to the hotel, the three Whitfields sat in the living room for a long time without speaking.

Held in her mother’s arms, Sophie slowly calmed down.

She knew her parents were worried. To reassure them, she ordered dinner and smiled as she tried to comfort

them.

“Dad, Mom, it’s over. I really have moved on. Please stop looking so miserable.”

Seeing how hard she was trying to protect them, Thomas and Helen patted her hand, their eyes filled with

pain.

“Sophie, if you’ve let go, I won’t force you to talk about it and make you relive anything. But I need you to tell

me the truth. What else happened while you were with Ryan?”

Sophie paused.

She thought back over the years and everything that happened before she left New York, but she didn’t know

where to begin.

Most of her pain came from the helplessness of realizing Ryan had been playing with her feelings all along.

And feelings were complicated. They couldn’t always be judged as simply right or wrong.

After thinking for a long time, she decided there was one matter that truly required an ending.

She told her parents what happened at the bar the night before she left.

By the time she finished, Thomas was striking the table in rage, and Helen’s face had gone pale with fear.

Neither of them could accept it. They immediately booked flights back to the United States.

“Soliciting an attempted sexual assault is a crime. Sophie, don’t worry. We won’t let the people who tried to

hurt you escape responsibility.”

After one night’s rest, the Whitfields returned to New York.

Their first stop was the bar, where they obtained the surveillance footage. Then they went directly to the

police.

With clear evidence in hand, officers brought in everyone involved for questioning that same day.

At first, Isabelle had no idea what was happening. But when she saw Sophie at the station, the color left her

face.

Before the formal interview even began, she rushed toward Sophie, hoping to seize control of the situation.

“Didn’t you move to Spain? What are you doing back here?”

“Settling what you started. You know exactly what you did.”

Panic flashed across Isabelle’s face, but she continued to deny everything.

“I didn’t do anything. How dare you accuse me?”

Sophie had no patience for the performance.

“The surveillance footage will show whether I’m accusing you falsely. Your denial doesn’t change what

happened.”

The clear recordings soon forced Isabelle to relive every detail of that night.

When the police told her she could face prosecution, her arrogance vanished. Panic consumed her, and she

began to apologize.

“I’m sorry. I was jealous that night, and I wasn’t thinking clearly. I made a terrible mistake. But nothing actually happened to you, so can’t you let this go?”

Sophie gave a cold laugh.

At the time, one blow after another had left her barely functioning. She had been desperate to leave New

York and simply hadn’t had the chance to pursue the matter.

What did Isabelle mean, nothing happened?

If Sophie hadn’t reached the ashtray, she might not have walked out of that bar alive.

Isabelle had done something unforgivable and still showed no genuine remorse. She merely wanted the

consequences to disappear.

Sophie would never allow that.

“Save that explanation for court. I intend to see this through to the end.”

The sentence dropped Isabelle into despair.

At the thought of a conviction, prison time, and the complete destruction of her future, she panicked and

turned to Thomas.

“Professor Whitfield, please. For the sake of everything between our families, let me go this once. You know

how hard I worked to get where I am. Give me another chance. Please.”

Thomas looked at his former star student as she begged and wept.

He remained unmoved.

“You have disappointed me beyond words.”
