Show Me You Love Me, Alpha Chapter 06

The night before I was set to leave for the border, I gave the place a thorough cleaning. Then I took out the trash.

As I walked toward the dumpster, I noticed a figure curled up in the shadows behind it.

My first instinct was to be on guard.

Living alone, I feared it might be a rogue lurking in the dark.

But almost immediately, I realized who it was.

I knew Noah too well. Every habit. Every movement.

For the past seven years, no matter how crowded the pack was, my eyes had always found him first.

Right then, I heard his wolf.

“If she takes one more step, she’ll find us hiding behind this dumpster like a homeless stray, waiting for her to bring us home.”

“Call our name. If she just says our name once, we’ll run to her, apologize, and ask her to restore our mate bond.”

His name rose to my lips. I had called it countless times before.

This time, I swallowed it.

I stood there for two seconds.

Then I calmly threw away the trash, turned around, and walked off as though I’d seen nothing.

A faint rustling stirred behind me. Footsteps—cut short almost the moment they began.

I wasn’t surprised. That was Noah.

He’d rather vanish from sight, abandon his training, and hide behind a dumpster covered in filth than stand before me.

Even now, he still couldn’t bring himself to ask one simple question. Why did I end our mate bond?

His wolf was practically frantic.

“Turn around, Anna. Noah’s already giving you an out. Why won’t you just take it and make things right?”

“This is already hard enough for Noah. Can’t you see how pitiful he looks right now?”

“Anna, please. You’re our fated mate. You know us better than anyone. How can you just ignore us like this?”

I stopped walking. Slowly, I looked back at Noah.

Then I answered his wolf. “I’m not stupid. Noah is just not worthy.”

“Only those brave enough to reach for love deserve to have it.”

“A coward who hides in silence instead of speaking up doesn’t deserve my heart.”

“Why should I be the one chasing after him again when he can’t even say he’s sorry?”

“Is that what you think Anna is? Someone with so little self-respect?”

Years of pent-up hurt and resentment erupted out of me.

When I finished, I stood there panting, but for the first time in a long while, I felt lighter.

His wolf completely lost it.

“What—she can hear everything I’ve been saying to you?”

“So she’s known how you felt all along… and said nothing?”

“It’s over, Noah. We’ve really lost her. Forever.”

I looked at Noah. He stood frozen, utterly stunned.

I let out a short, mocking laugh.

Then I turned and walked away—no more words, no looking back.
