The Internet Told Him to Leave Me, but He’s Still Holding Me Chapter 05

Before I could even react, Damon was already striding toward us.

“Damon, I-”

I didn’t get another word out before he grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his arms.

His hand settled firmly around my waist, holding me close.

“I’m Nerissa’s boyfriend.”

His eyes met Jasper’s.

“No need to trouble yourself. I’ll take her home.”

Jasper’s expression stiffened for a split second.

His gaze dropped to the arm wrapped around my waist.

He didn’t say anything. But the atmosphere had definitely shifted.

Wait. Was Jasper… jealous?

I sensed that something was off.

So I immediately wrapped my arms around Damon’s waist.

“What took you so long?” I mumbled. “I thought you weren’t coming to get me.”

Something flickered across Damon’s eyes.

Then he let out a quiet laugh.

“Sorry. I kept you waiting.”

Jasper glanced between us, as if he wanted to say something.

Before he could, his sister walked out of the salon, breaking the awkward silence.

“My boyfriend’s here, so I’m heading out.”

As soon as I said that, Damon shot Jasper a meaningful look before leading me to the car.

The entire drive home, Damon barely spoke.

The car cruised smoothly down the road.

His jaw was set, his attention fixed on the road.

I was just about to explain everything when I noticed an elegant gift box sitting on the back seat.

I fell silent.

The packaging was flashy, but I recognized it immediately. It was the newest men’s skincare gift set.

Damon had always had great skin.

Other than face wash, he never used skincare products.

Back in high school, he’d stayed up studying so often that dark circles formed under his eyes.

I’d bought him eye cream and a whole skincare set.

He’d barely glanced at it before refusing.

“I’m not interested.”

There was no way he’d bought this himself. So someone else had given it to him.

The more I thought about it, the worse I felt. I sniffled quietly.

I’d chased practically every girl away over the years. Which only left one possibility.

A guy gave it to him.

No wonder he’d been so distant lately.

Somehow, that stung even worse than if he’d just broken up with me.

Damon glanced at the rearview mirror. His gaze landed on my tearful expression.

“What’s wrong?” His tone cooled. “That upset you didn’t get a ride home with him?”

The jealousy in his voice was impossible to miss.

I turned my face toward the window.

“You were at your business dinner. I couldn’t get a ride after my nail appointment, so someone offered to help. Was I supposed to say no?”

Damon stared at me for a few seconds.

Then, for some reason, the corners of his mouth lifted.

“Trying to make me jealous?”

I had no idea what he was smiling about.

“Got it.” His smile deepened. “I won’t leave you on your own again.”

I really didn’t get him.
