The Bet Behind My Five-Year Love Story Chapter 07

The photos of him and Aria-all of them-were gone. Replaced by Chloe’s face.

The emcee announced loudly, “Welcome to the wedding of Mr. Ethan Cole and Ms. Chloe Hayes!”

He stared, utterly dumbfounded-it was pure insanity. Chloe, still crying, looked around and saw her own face on every screen. First shock, then a flash of delight as she grabbed his sleeve. “Ethan-she’s giving us her blessing! That’s why she sent ‘Happy wedding!’ My sister-she’s truly the best sister in the world!”

He shoved her off and lunged at the emcee. “Wrong! The bride is Aria-how did it become Chloe? These are

our wedding photos!”

Sweating, the emcee fumbled through his cards and made a call. Then he turned back and explained: “Mr. Cole, the bride was originally Ms. Hayes. But she came in a few days ago to change it. We pulled all-nighters

to get it ready.”

Ethan grabbed the cue card and slammed it to the floor. “Impossible!”

She couldn’t have left him. She’d loved him for so long.

Chloe picked up the card carefully and ventured: “Why don’t we go with it? I know you love me too, right?”

He bristled like a cornered cat. “Who said I love you? I’ve only ever loved Aria!”

Chloe wouldn’t let it go. “Then why do you always pick bones out of my fish? Why do you go buy my honey pomelo tea? Why did you let me take my sister’s place at the procession?”

He stood frozen. Had Aria thought the same thing? But he’d only done it to get a reaction-to make her jealous. Because she always put Chloe first. Always. If he complained about Chloe, she threatened to leave. But if he was nice to Chloe, she sulked, and he loved that. It reminded him she still cared.

But maybe she’d truly misunderstood.

He looked at Chloe with cold eyes. “I never loved you. And from now on, you call me your brother-in-law. Got

it?”

He stumbled out of the venue and called Aria. Blocked. Her number and social media-everything.

He went to her company. “I’m her fiancé.”

Her colleague stared. “She applied for an overseas assignment a week ago. Five years. Are you really her fiance? How did you not know?”
