Alpha Begged, Luna Walked Chapter 09

Alpha Begged, Luna Walked Chapter 09

Eden crawled toward him, clutching the hem of his coat. “Alpha. Please. Please let me go—”

He laughed. Soft. Wrecked.

“You’d better pray I find her,” he said. “Pray she’s still alive.”

He bent low, his mouth near her ear.

“Or you die.”

Then he was moving, phone pressed to his ear, voice savage. “Get me the airport. I don’t care what it takes, I need a flight back to Blue Tide. Now.”

I didn’t know he’d returned.

The terminal was thick with people. Silas had gone to the baggage counter.

Then I saw him.

Magnus, coming straight at me. His hand closed around my wrist.

“Let go.” I wrenched away.

He grabbed only air. “Nova. Come home.”

I slapped him.

The sound cut through the crowd. His head snapped to the side. A red mark bloomed on his cheek.

“Where are you going?” His voice was raw. His eyes fell on my luggage. “Are you coming back?”

“You don’t get to ask me that.” My teeth were clenched so hard my jaw ached. “We’re not mates. You wanted me to admit it, ten years of delusion, nothing real between us.

I made the statement. Now I’m leaving. None of this concerns you anymore.”

I pulled my coat shut.

His gaze dropped to my stomach, flat now, empty.

“Does it hurt?” he whispered. “There.”

I didn’t answer.

His hand pressed against his chest. “Nova. Here too. It feels like it’s splitting open.”

I looked at him. “Why would I care?”

He sank to his knees.

Knees first. Then the ring box, deep blue velvet, fumbling open in his shaking hands.

“I know what you wanted,” he said. His eyes were wet. Red. “Nova. I love you. We lost ten years. Will you still marry me?”

“Does Eden know you’re proposing with her ring?”

“It was never hers.” His voice cracked. “She stole it. This ring was always yours. I have only ever loved you.”

I shook my head slowly.

“I don’t believe you anymore.”

He was wrecked on the airport floor. And I felt nothing. Not hate. Not grief. Just the distant awareness that this was a performance, and I was no longer in the audience.

Some things are cured only by death.

I turned. He grabbed for me.

“I made her pay. You’ll never see her again. She conspired with rogues to kill you, she’ll spend the rest of her life in a cell, wishing she was dead.”

His words tumbled out faster.

“I’ll be home every day. If you don’t want another child, we’ll adopt. The sweetest pup. We’ll be a family.”

A fist connected with his jaw.

Magnus went down. Silas stood over him, breathing hard.

“Alpha Magnus.” His voice shook with rage. “A family. Do you hear yourself? Every scar on her body is because of you. Every single one.”

His hands fisted. “I should have taken her when I had the chance. I should have burned your territory to the ground.”

I stepped forward and touched his arm.

“It’s okay,” I said quietly. “You’re late. But you came.”

Magnus pushed himself up, blood smeared his mouth.

“Don’t go,” he said. “Please.”

I freed my wrist from his grip.

I didn’t look back.

Maybe I would end up with Silas. Maybe I wouldn’t.

But I would never end up with Magnus again.
