Thirty Years Of Marriage I Thought Was A Mistake Chapter 09

“Vanessa.”

Adrian’s voice was calm, but there was something terrifying beneath that calm.

“In our previous life, Vanessa kept dosing me with a slow-acting poison for ten years.”

“The poison didn’t kill immediately. Instead, it gradually damaged my organs until I died of multiple organ failure.”

“The doctors thought I had an extremely rare disease, but I didn’t. I had been poisoned.”

My hands began to tremble.

“I remember everything from our previous life.”

“I remember how you became my wife and how well you treated me for thirty years. I remember the taste of the oatmeal you made every morning and the color of the scarf you knitted for me.”

“I also remember how hard you cried when I died.”

“That’s why I will never let Vanessa lay a finger on you in this life.”

For a long moment, no new comments appeared. Then they flooded my vision all at once.

[Vanessa poisoned Mr. Prescott in their previous life??? So he didn’t die from some rare disease?]

[Oh my God. So in their previous life, the female supporting character thought she was the other woman.]

[Vanessa poisoned Mr. Prescott to death and left the female supporting character carrying that guilt for the rest of her life. That’s vicious.]

[Mr. Prescott struck first this time. He destroyed Whitmore Holdings before Vanessa ever had another chance to hurt them.]

[But how did Mr. Prescott come back too? Were both of them sent back in time?]

[Maybe when Mr. Prescott said, “If there’s another life,” God really heard him and gave them another chance.]

I looked into Adrian’s eyes, the same eyes I had looked into for thirty years.

He had never been indifferent or distant. He had simply buried all his feelings so deeply that he never dared let me know. I had never known because, in our previous life, I had never asked.

“Adrian.” My voice trembled.

“Yes?”

“Why didn’t you tell me in our previous life? Why didn’t you tell me you loved me?”

“I thought there was someone else in your heart. I thought you married me only because you felt responsible. I thought—”

“Because I was afraid,” he interrupted, his voice hoarse. “Grace, I was terrified.”

“I was afraid that if you knew I loved you, you would feel pressured. I was afraid you would think you owed me something and stay only because of that.”

“I chose to let you believe I had married you out of obligation. That way, you were free to leave whenever you wanted.”

“But I never wanted to leave,” I said through my tears. “I never wanted to leave you, Adrian.”

“I spent thirty years by your side, and not once did I consider walking away.”

“I thought you didn’t love me, but I didn’t care. As long as I could stay with you, that was enough.”

He pulled me into his arms and held me so tightly that I could barely breathe.

“It won’t be like that this time,” he murmured against the top of my head. “I won’t hide anything from you again.”

“Grace, I have loved you since you were fifteen. I love you now, and that will never change.”

My mother poked her head out of the kitchen.

When she saw us holding each other, she quietly withdrew again.

A moment later, I heard her making a phone call.

“Honey, some man just stole our daughter away. You need to come home.”
