My Cousin Faked Illness to Steal My Boyfriend, He Turned the Tables Chapter 04

Atriumphant smile flashed across Iris’s face as her hand reached out to touch him.

But the next second, Greyson sat straight up.

He grabbed the mug of coffee from the table and dumped it right over her head.

Iris shrieked.

The lights flipped on.

My parents, Aunt Nova, and Grandma all rushed into the living room.

Iris was completely drenched, her makeup running down her face like a ruined watercolor painting.

Greyson leaned back against the couch, his voice sounding perfectly defensive.

“I was fast asleep when someone crawled all over me. I thought a thief broke into the house.”

Iris sobbed. “I… I was just worried you weren’t feeling well and wanted to check on you.”

Greyson continued, “Then why were you wearing Hadley’s coat and drenched in her perfume?”

Aunt Nova shielded Iris immediately. “Iris was just trying to be kind. How can you be so mean?”

Grandma turned on me. “Hadley, did you tell him to do this?”

Every single eye shifted to me.

That familiar, suffocating weight pressed down on my chest.

Greyson stood up and walked over to my side.

Right in front of everyone, he said, “My girlfriend didn’t tell me to do anything. I came wired to tell people apart and their scents too.”

Iris’s sobbing hitched.

“On her, that perfume smells soft and sweet,” he added. “On you, it’s just sharp and off.”

That sentence completely pushed Aunt Nova over the edge.

She lunged forward to strike Greyson.

I stepped in front of him, and her hand slapped across my face, forcing my head to the side.

The entire living room froze.

Realizing what she had done, Aunt Nova immediately burst into tears. “I… I didn’t mean to. I was just upset

about Iris.”

Mom pulled at my arm. “Hadley, your aunt wasn’t thinking straight.”

I stared at her. “So because I’m the one who got hit, it doesn’t matter?”

Dad frowned. “She already said she didn’t mean to do it.”

Greyson pulled me behind him, his voice low and steady. “Let’s call the cops.”

Iris snapped her head up. “No!”

The panic in her voice was unmistakable.

Grandma panicked too. “It’s just a little family squabble-why involve the police?”

“Someone sneaks up on me in the middle of the night pretending to be my girlfriend, and then throws a punch,” Greyson said. “Whether it’s a minor matter is for the law to decide.”

Aunt Nova’s face went entirely pale.

Mom lowered her voice, glaring at me. “Hadley, are you really going to make a scene like this?”

I shot back, “Who started it?”

Iris suddenly clutched her chest and collapsed onto the couch.

“The meds! Get her meds right now!” Aunt Nova screamed.

The entire room instantly crowded around her.

Dad yelled at me, “What are you just standing there for? Get some water!”

Greyson didn’t move.

He stared directly at Iris’s hand.

“Don’t bother looking-the pill bottle’s already in her right hand.”

Iris’s crying stopped dead in its tracks.

Sure enough, her right hand was gripping the medicine bottle tightly.

A rare look of sheer embarrassment crossed Grandma’s face.

Mom still insisted, “Iris is having an attack. We need to take her to the hospital.”

“Go ahead,” Greyson said. “The hospital has security footage, and they can document the injuries for us to press charges.”

Iris glared at him through gritted teeth.

For the first time, I saw actual terror in her eyes.

In the end, she didn’t go the hospital.

Aunt Nova claimed it was too late and that the trip would only worsen her health.

Greyson took out his phone and snapped a photo of the red mark on my face, then another of the mess scattered across the living room.

My mom frowned. “Greyson, who exactly are you covering yourself against?”

Greyson replied, “Against someone saying tomorrow morning that Hadley was the one who bullied Iris.”

Mom’s face flushed-he’d hit the mark.

Dad told us to leave for the night.

Before we walked out the door, Iris, who had changed her clothes, sat on the stairs looking deathly pale.

She stared intently at Greyson.

“Mr. Brown, don’t you feel even a little bit sorry for me?”
