“Thank you so much for coming to my engagement party.”

Her eyes were glossy and her voice soft and pitiful. “Mel, I’ve always seen you as my own sister, but when true love shows up, it’s fate…”
I raised my hand and slapped her. Hard.

I didn’t look at them again. I turned and walked away.
My heels crunched over broken glass without the slightest pause.
Behind me, guests gasped and whispered, saying this drama beat anything in the movies.

Luna chased me down and grabbed my wrist. “Mel, we’ve been best friends since we were kids. I know I wronged you, but what I have with Silco is true love!”

Outside the hotel, the wind was howling.
I stood at the curb to hail a cab.
My phone wouldn’t stop buzzing—nothing but group chat messages.
Someone had already posted the video. Someone tagged me. Some people told me to calm down. Others were raging for me and starting fights.
I killed the screen and got in the taxi.
By the time I got home, my older sister was already waiting at the door.
Her eyes were red. She pulled me into a hug.
“I saw the group chat. Those two assholes… I’m going to tear them apart right now!”
