My Billionaire Thinks I’m His Cat Not His Fiancée Chapter 06

I was starving after all that running around, so I found a restaurant and sat down.

I ordered. Then I heard a familiar voice from the next table.

“…So that’s how it happened.”

Ethan? What was he doing here?

The woman sitting with him burst out laughing.

“I’m sorry. Are you telling me you thought she was—” she burst out laughing, “—a cat?”

She was practically wheezing.

“So you suddenly brought up the marriage arrangement because you thought you were losing your mind over a cat—”

She dissolved into laughter again.

He’d recovered?!

My brain went blank from information overload.

Ethan said coldly, “Your mother doesn’t know you’re in Crestwood visiting your girlfriend, does she?”

The woman quickly cleared her throat.

His voice turned heavy. “She obviously didn’t want this. She kept trying to run, and I kept dragging her back home.

“She’s so innocent. She must have been so frustrated—she told me, over and over, that since we were like this, why couldn’t we just get married.

“And now she doesn’t even see me as a man, I mean, she’s just… completely unguarded around me…”

The woman sighed. “Then just let her go.”

The System and I both leaned in.

A waiter wheeled over a cart with a box of romaine lettuce and started giving a loud, elaborate presentation.

I made frantic faces and waved my hands until I finally shooed him away.

When I could hear again, Ethan asked hesitantly, “You’re sure?”

The woman, “Trust me. Do what I say. By the way, what does she look like?”

Ethan’s voice carried a faint smile.

“My wallpaper.”

“I have the house feed on my phone. You can watch.”

In that instant, the System’s gleeful cackle and my internal scream overlapped in my head.

They couldn’t see me on the feed, obviously.

Ethan explained, “…She’s probably sleeping at this hour.”

The woman made a curious sound. “What’s that white paper on the table? Looks like… writing?”

Silence fell at their table.

I held my breath.

I could hear Ethan’s breathing grow ragged.

And my own heartbeat thundering in my ears.

The woman let out a soft “Ah.” A delighted, mischief-loving lilt. “She ran away.”

Even through the tall plants, I could feel the chill radiating from Ethan.

I parted the leaves and peeked at him.

His face was dark as he tapped at his phone, his brows furrowed.

The woman gasped. “One, two, three… thirteen trackers? You’re a real creep.”

Ethan gritted his teeth. “It’s for her safety.”

Then he was gone, striding out fast.

But it wasn’t over.

The woman at the next table didn’t leave.

She made a phone call, cooing sweetly to whoever was on the other end, telling them the story with a smile.

“…Yeah, so I told him, since she was willing to just lie back and let him treat her like a cat, that means her life outside must have been even worse. Can he really stand to leave her out there all alone?”

Then came the sickly-sweet flirting.

I shoved the plants aside and glared at the woman.

She jumped, her expression shifting through shock, guilt, then excitement.

She slowly lowered her phone.

“What if I told you I wasn’t trying to stir up trouble?”

She raised her hands. “Okay, fine. I was mostly just here for the drama.”

The System chirped in my head: [She’s so honest. I kind of can’t hate her.]

I sneered: [You troublemakers really do stick together.]

Miss Hart looked me up and down. “No wonder Ethan fell for someone like you. You’re exactly his type.”

I said nothing and turned to leave.

She called after me, “Do you want to know what Ethan is actually afraid of? What he really thinks of you?”

I stopped.

She said slowly, “If you really want to get back at him, don’t just say you’re running away.”

I asked, “Then what?”

Miss Hart’s eyes curved. “I’ll help you. Tell him you found someone else.”

I gritted my teeth and agreed.

Back at the motel, I asked the System what I’d missed earlier.

It laughed like it had just won a war.

[You’re doomed. She taught him how to do an obsessive pursuit.]
