He Locked The AC At Sixteen While I Bled In Pain Chapter 10

Ethan went completely mad, throwing his fists against the reinforced iron gates.

“I was wrong! I was truly wrong! Come out and scream at me! Hit me!”

No matter how loudly he shrieked, the estate remained absolutely silent. After that night in the storm, Ethan developed a severe case of double pneumonia, which quickly triggered viral myocarditis.

He spent two full weeks in the ICU before barely managing to claw his way back to life.

But he didn’t stop. Or rather, he had completely lost his mind.

The day he was discharged, he didn’t even bother to look at his crumbling empire at Hayes Enterprises. Instead, dragging his broken body along, he stationed himself directly outside my corporate office building.

At five o’clock in the afternoon, I stepped out of the revolving glass doors right on time. Standing right beside me was my business partner, Lucas Lambert.

As a gust of biting winter wind swept past, Lucas opened an umbrella and carefully draped a heavy wool coat over my shoulders. He tilted his head down, his voice gentle.

“The car’s climate control is already set to seventy-eight degrees,” Lucas said. “It’s freezing today. Is the old injury on your right hand flaring up?”

I used my left hand to pull the coat tighter, offering him a small smile. “It doesn’t hurt anymore, thank you.”

This exact scene struck Ethan’s eyes like a poisoned dagger.

“Nadia!” Ethan charged forward, his eyes wild and bloodshot. He looked completely emaciated, his face hollowed out as he stared at Lucas’s hand on my coat. “What do you think you’re doing?! Get your hands off her!”

He tried to violently shove Lucas out of the way, but Lucas stood his ground like a wall, blocking him completely.

“Mr. Hayes, control yourself,” Lucas said coldly. “This is Ms. Sutton’s company. If you continue to harass her, I will have the police clear you out.”

“Who the hell do you think you are! Move!” Ethan screamed. “Nadia is my wife! We were together for five years! You think you can just replace me?!”

I stopped walking, looking down at the unhinged man before me with absolute tranquility.

“Ethan, we are divorced,” I said. “Two years ago, the very day I called the agents to clear out the house, the divorce petition was delivered straight to your desk.”

“I never signed it! I never agreed to it!” Ethan collapsed onto his knees a yard away from me, not daring to actually touch me. He pulled out a stack of equity transfer papers from his coat pocket, offering them up with shaking hands.

“Nadia, I’m transferring one hundred percent of the shares in Hayes Enterprises to you! I’ll walk away with absolutely nothing, I’ll work for you! Just come home with me, please? We can start over…”

I looked down at the priceless corporate registry in his hands without even a flicker of interest.

“Hayes Enterprises?” I found it almost comical. “Ethan, do you honestly believe that as long as you throw enough money around, as long as you make yourself look pathetic enough, I am legally obligated to accept your apology with gratitude?”

“No, I just want to make it up to you…” Ethan wept, shaking his head.

I let my smile fade, my expression turning to stone.

“Ethan,” I spoke softly, but each word cut like a scalpel. “I don’t hate you.”

Ethan snapped his head up, a flash of pure ecstasy hitting his eyes. “Nadia…”

“Because my world simply doesn’t have room for you anymore,” I interrupted ruthlessly. “Right now, you’re nothing but background noise to me. I left those ten comforters behind because trash belongs in a dumpster. The same goes for people.”

“Stop coming around to ruin the clean snow by my door. It’s honestly nauseating.”

With that, I turned around and stepped into the waiting car without looking back. The door sealed shut, locking his desperate screams completely outside.
