No Past, No Pain, No Return Chapter 06

No Past, No Pain, No Return Chapter 06

**POV:** Caleb Calloway

I’m a piece of shit.

Like Vanessa said, our first time was drunk and wrong.

But I wasn’t drunk enough to mistake her for Serena.

Alcohol only lowered my inhibitions. It let my desires take over.

I loved Serena. But I wanted Vanessa too.

I told myself it was only once. One time, then I’d return to Serena and make things right.

But Vanessa’s hips moved like heaven. Her tongue was too skilled.

When she clenched around me, I lost control.

I gave in. Little by little, I fell deeper.

Vanessa was fresh. Exciting. She gave me what Serena couldn’t.

I didn’t know how to face Serena. So I kept extending the mission.

Then Vanessa got pregnant.

Everyone wanted to keep the pup. Even Serena.

I couldn’t imagine what would happen if Serena found out.

But I couldn’t bear Vanessa’s tears either.

One wrong step led to another.

I’m a coward. A selfish bastard.

But why was the Moon Goddess punishing me like this?

If Serena couldn’t accept the truth, she could get revenge. She could end the bond. Anything.

Anything but death.

I loved her. She was the one I loved most.

We’d been together since we were sixteen. She was my fated mate. Losing her would kill me.

I went to the supernatural bars near the border.

Seedy places. Someone had to know something.

But no. Nothing.

Serena hadn’t gone missing. She had hidden herself.

She was good at it.

I dragged myself home. I asked Aunt Marianne, “Did Serena say anything to you?”

She blinked. Then she got angry.

“All she does is lie. She posted that thing about Vanessa. How can you still believe her?”

“If she really has cancer, let her rot. I don’t have a daughter anymore.”

I felt helpless.

“Serena isn’t like that.”

The words came out. Then I froze.

Serena wouldn’t lie. But my wolf had been certain she did. That she was the one who got Vanessa cyberbullied.

Something felt wrong. But I didn’t have the energy to dig deeper.

Right now, it didn’t matter who she was. Or whether she lied.

I just wanted to find her. Make sure she was alive.

But I couldn’t spare the time.

When Vanessa found out Serena was sick and missing, she broke down.

She blamed herself. She refused to eat. She tried to kill herself. She even tried to strangle the pup.

“It’s all his fault! If it weren’t for him, Serena wouldn’t have found out. She wouldn’t have disappeared.”

Then she’d feel guilty. And hurt herself again.

I had to watch her twenty-four seven.

Days passed.

Still no word from Serena.

I was exhausted. On edge.

Sometimes I thought we should all die together.

Every stomachache. Every tear from the fated bond. My wolf curled up in pain.

But I started to crave that pain.

It meant Serena was alive.

It was the only connection I had left to her.
