No Past, No Pain, No Return Chapter 03

No Past, No Pain, No Return Chapter 03

There was a noise at the door.

Vanessa stood there. Her lips were white. Her eyes were red.

“Serena, you know, don’t you?”

Her voice trembled with fear.

Caleb held her up. He used his body to block me.

He comforted her softly. He didn’t even try to hide his concern.

“Why did you come out? You didn’t even put on a coat. You’re too weak. You shouldn’t be out in the wind. Let’s go back to the clinic, okay?”

Vanessa grabbed my hands and cried.

“I’m sorry, Serena. It’s all my fault. I fell for Caleb. But he loves you. I couldn’t ruin what you had.”

“I got him drunk before your mating ceremony. I wore your clothes. He thought I was you.”

“We agreed to forget it. Pretend it never happened. But I was greedy. I kept going back to him. When I got pregnant, I couldn’t get rid of the pup.”

“Serena, I lied to you. You should hate me. I don’t deserve to be your family.”

She sank to her knees. She hugged my legs.

“Serena, the pup is yours too. You’re his godmother. Please don’t take it out on him.”

Caleb tried to lift her up.

I stepped back. Her nose hit my knee.

No.

She hit it herself.

Her nose started bleeding.

“Vanessa!” Caleb shouted.

She pushed him away. She kept begging.

“Serena, forgive me. Please?”

I stood there frozen. My head was ringing.

“Serena. Say it. Say you don’t blame her. Say you’ll accept the pup.”

Caleb grabbed my collar. His eyes were savage.

If I said the wrong thing, his Alpha aura would crush me.

I laughed. “Why?”

Vanessa gagged. Her face was covered in blood and tears. She kept saying, “Sorry.”

Caleb glared at me. He picked her up and carried her out.

She clung to his neck. A moonstone bonding ring was on her finger.

Her “mystery boyfriend” gave it to her when she got pregnant.

She’d told me right away. Her eyes sparkled. Her voice sounded sad.

“He proposed. But we both know it’s fake. We can’t really be together.”

No. They could.

Now she had his pup. It was possible.

I swayed. My head pounded. My stomach ached.

Then my phone rang. It was the northern border regional medical center.

The voice on the phone mixed with the sound of me fumbling for my pills.

“Ms. Moore, your follow-up results are in.”

“I’m sorry. The pack healer confirmed a stomach tumor. It’s suspected to be malignant.”

“Please contact the hospital as soon as possible to arrange treatment.”
