A line of enormous white text appeared in the center of the screen.

FATAL ERROR: CORE IP LICENSE REVOKED. Unauthorized access has been logged. The system is now permanently locked.

A piercing alarm immediately echoed through the conference room.

The smile on Sophia’s face froze.

She pounded at the keyboard, cold sweat beading on her forehead.

“This can’t be happening.”

“Oh my God, it was working a minute ago.”

Daniel’s expression quickly hardened.

“Mr. Walker, is this your idea of an optimized system?”

“You don’t even have the legal right to use the underlying technology?”

Ethan rushed onto the stage and shoved Sophia aside.

“Switch to the backup server now.”

“The backup server is locked too.”

Sophia’s voice began to tremble.

“We can’t access any of the databases. Oh my God, we’re finished.”

The conference room fell completely silent.

Every eye turned to Ethan and Sophia.

That was when Ethan noticed me sitting in the corner.

He rushed over and grabbed my arm tightly.

“Erin, did you sabotage the system?”

“Don’t sabotage the company just to get back at me for last night.”

“Restore it now. We’ll discuss everything else at home.”

I pulled my arm free and stood up.

“Mr. Walker, I’m only an IT operations specialist suspended without pay pending an investigation.”

“How could I modify anything under Acting CTO Bennett’s supervision?”

I looked up at the message on the screen.

“Is the message difficult to read?”

“The core patent licenses are no longer valid.”

“The company has been using three patents owned solely by me, free of charge.”

“I’m no longer licensing them to you.”

Daniel immediately stood up.

“Mr. Walker, you sought funding using patents owned by someone else?”

He pointed sternly at the screen.

“The due diligence report clearly states that the company owns the full intellectual property rights to the underlying technology.”

“How do you intend to explain this?”

Ethan waved his hands in panic.

“Mr. Morgan, please let me explain. This is a misunderstanding.”

“Erin is my fiancée. Of course her patents belong to the company too.”

“We just had a small disagreement last night.”

“I have no interest in your romantic problems.”

Daniel cut him off coldly.

“This is venture capital, not a game between the two of you.”

“Your company will receive formal notice of our withdrawal this afternoon.”

“Be prepared to face the contractual consequences of this breach.”

With that, he left the conference room with the other two partners.

After the door closed behind them, Ethan lost his balance and had to grip the edge of the table to remain standing.

He turned and stared at me, his eyes red with rage.

“Erin, are you insane?”

He was practically shouting.

“Do you have any idea what it means for the investors to pull out?”

“The cash in the company’s accounts won’t even last until next month.”

Sophia walked over as well and began blaming me.

“Erin, how can you be so selfish?”

“Just because you’re jealous that Ethan trusts me, you’re going to cost everyone their jobs?”

“Oh my God, you worked for this company for five years too. How can you be this cruel?”

One after another, they pushed all the blame onto me. I took a document out of my handbag, placed it on the conference table, and slid it toward Ethan.

“I’m the one destroying the company?”

My voice remained calm.

“For five years, the company used three core patents in my name without paying a cent in licensing fees.”

“At current market rates, those licenses are worth at least four hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year.”

“I never charged you a cent.”

I tapped the document on the table.

“This is an Equity Withdrawal and IP Separation Agreement.”
