My Pain Came Back Once They Betrayed Me Chapter 05

Those words made Logan’s suspicion solidify completely: Zora’s rare pain disorder had healed long ago.

Dispensing with all pleasantries, he tightened his grip on her wrist hard enough to bruise. “Zora, your condition’s gone, isn’t it?”

Caught off guard by his blunt question, panic flickered across Zora’s face for a split second.

She quickly composed herself, gasping in feigned shock. “It’s true! Pinch me, Logan, quick! I really can’t feel overwhelming pain anymore! This is amazing—I can finally live a normal life!”

Her overjoyed shout drew my parents rushing out from the dining room. Mom’s eyes even welled up with tears.

Zora threw her arms out to embrace Logan, but he shoved her away sharply with a dark, cold expression.

The whole room fell dead silent after that rough push.

Unease crept over Zora, and she spoke to him cautiously. “Aren’t you happy for me?”

“Zora, did your disorder only heal today?”

Logan’s sharp retort left her stammering. She tried to spin another lie, but his terrifying, thunderous glare forced her to stumble backward a step.

“Logan, what is this nonsense?” Dad stepped forward to shield Zora.

“Her illness lifting is wonderful news, isn’t it?”

“Wonderful news, yes, it truly is.”

Logan let out bitter, mocking laughter and pointed straight at Zora.

“But her condition cleared up the exact day Bella took that blade for her! Bella lay bleeding on cold concrete for hours, clinging to the edge of death, while Zora checked herself into a hospital over a tiny scrap!”

“On top of that, there are security cameras in Bella’s hospital room. I pulled the footage, and it proved Bella had nothing to do with the spilled soup that day—Zora staged every last bit of it herself!”

Once he finished speaking, my parents stared at Zora in utter disbelief. The blood drained from her face, and she shook her head frantically.

“If your illness got better ages ago, why hide it?”

“Do you have any idea that today, Bella—still weak from massive blood loss only days prior—had six hundred milliliters of blood drawn from her body just for your treatment?”

Each accusation drove her further back against the wall, and disappointment weighed heavy on my parents’ faces as they watched her.

“Zora, is it true your disorder healed long before today?”

“Tell me the truth—did you knock over that chicken noodle soup on purpose to frame your sister?”

“Your sister suffered endless agony all these months because of your condition. What exactly have you done to her?”

Zora grabbed fistfuls of her hair and screamed in torment. “Fine! Fine! My sickness went away the day we were kidnapped!”

“I’ve always hated Bella. I wanted her dead! Why did I get stolen away and suffer more than a decade of hardship, while she grew up pampered like a little princess?”

“Why is she the one engaged to you when I’m the older sister? I wanted her gone, I wanted all of your attention on only me!”

Looking at her unhinged outburst, the last shred of pity Logan held for Zora vanished entirely.

He could restrain himself no longer and raised his hand, landing a sharp slap across her cheek. “This hit is for Bella.”

Zora clutched her stinging cheek, staring at him in stunned shock. “You hit me? You struck me over Bella of all people!”

She shrieked, calling out for Mom and Dad, only to twist around and find them gazing at her with complicated, hurt expressions.

“What’s this look for? Do none of you love me anymore?”

“Do you all favor that wretched Bella instead?”

“If I hadn’t gone missing all those years ago, she never would’ve even been born!”
