I Said “I Do”… Then Woke Up at My Divorce Chapter 18

Grayson stood quickly

Before he reached the door, it was kicked open.

Bright light filled the room.

Police officers entered with guns raised.

“Grayson Ashford, don’t move.”

Grayson froze.

Ethan came through the doorway behind them.

His dark coat was wet from the rain.

His face was cold.

“Vivian.”

Vivian looked up.

The strength that had held her together for seven days disappeared.

She climbed from the bed.

Ethan crossed the room and caught her.

He held her close.

“It’s over.”

“I’m here.”

His voice was steady.

Vivian began to cry.

Grayson watched them.

Rage filled his eyes.

“Let her go.”

“He is only my replacement.”

“What right does he have to take her from me?”

A woman’s voice came from the hallway.

“You are exactly like your father.”

Vivian looked toward the door

A woman in a dark coat stood there.

She was calm and elegant.

Power filled the way she carried herself.

Ethan spoke.

“Mom.”

Vivian stared at him.

Grayson became still.

“Mom…”

The woman looked down at him.

Her eyes held no warmth.

“Do not call me that.”

She entered the room and looked at Vivian.

Her voice became gentle.

“You did well.”

Vivian did not understand.

“My name is Catherine Langford.”

“I’m Ethan’s mother.”

“And I’m also Grayson’s mother.”

Then Vivian learned the truth.

Ethan and Grayson were identical twins.

They had the same father and the same mother.

Grayson had kept the Ashford name.

Ethan had been raised under Catherine’s name, Langford.

Years ago, Catherine married into the Ashford family.

She believed she had married a good man.

Then she learned the truth.

The Ashford rules were not traditions.

They were chains used to control women.

Mr. Ashford Sr. cheated again and again.

Catherine fought him.

Then she tried to leave.

She wanted to take both boys.

But the Ashfords used their money, lawyers, and power to keep Grayson.

Grayson had already been taught to believe his father was right.

He refused to leave with Catherine.

During the custody case, the Ashfords used his words against her.

Catherine only managed to take Ethan.

Before she left, young Grayson had looked at her and said:

“Ashford men are supposed to live this way.”

“Why are you making Father look bad?”

Those words never left her.

Catherine looked at Vivian.

“When I left, everyone said I was ungrateful.”

“They said a wife should stay quiet.”

“They said the family name mattered more than my life.”

“I refused to believe them.”

“So did you.”

“You were brave enough to leave.”

The police later searched a private medical center owned through one of Grayson’s companies.

They found Lily there.

She was thin and weak.

Her mind was badly damaged.

Whenever she saw a man in dark clothes, she covered her head and screamed.

“Don’t hurt me.”

“I won’t do it again.”

The woman who had built nightmares for others was now trapped inside one of her own.

Grayson’s case went to court.

He faced charges for kidnapping, illegal imprisonment, serious assault, bribery, and hiding evidence.

The police also opened old Ashford records.

Years of crimes came into the light.

Vivian did not attend the final hearing.

On the day Grayson was sent to prison, heavy rain fell over Northgate.

Vivian boarded a flight to Switzerland with Ethan and Catherine.

They sat in a private airport lounge before boarding.

A flight attendant came to Catherine.

“Excuse me, Mrs. Langford.”

“Mr. Ashford Sr. is outside the airport.”

“He is asking to see you.”

“He says one sentence would be enough.”

Catherine leaned back.

Her expression did not change.

“No.”

“Please tell him this.”

“Catherine Langford and the elder Mr. Ashford are finished.”

“I have nothing left to say to him.”

“Not now.”

‘Not ever”

The flight attendant nodded and left.

Soon, the plane began moving.

Vivian looked out the window.

Northgate disappeared beneath the rain.

The gray clouds opened around the wings.

Warm sunlight fell across her hand.

Ethan reached over and held it.

His hand was warm and steady.

This time, Vivian did not pull away.

Behind her, Northgate vanished beneath the clouds.

Ahead of her, the sky opened.

For the first time in years, Vivian was not running from the past.

She was flying toward a life that finally belonged to her.
