I Said “I Do”… Then Woke Up at My Divorce Chapter 06

Mrs Warren was ordered to leave the next morning

Vivian had not slept all night because of the pain.

She swallowed several pain pills just to get out of bed.

She held the wall and slowly made her way to the staff rooms.

Before she reached the door, she heard Lily.

“Check everything.”

“Make sure she doesn’t take anything that belongs to the Ashfords.”

Vivian looked inside.

Mrs. Warren’s suitcase had been emptied.

Clothes, medicine, and old photographs covered the floor.

Mrs. Warren stood nearby.

Her face was red with shame.

Vivian hurried forward and pulled the bag away from the staff.

“What are you doing?”

Lily smiled.

“I’m protecting the family’s property.”

“What if an old thief tried to carry something out?”

“Mrs. Warren is not a thief.”

Vivian’s hands shook.

“Tell them to stop.”

The staff did not look at her.

They kept searching.

After every item had been checked, Mrs. Warren slowly packed her things again.

She picked up the suitcase.

“Wait.”

Lily’s voice stopped her

“We checked the luggage.”

“We haven’t searched her clothes.”

Mrs Warren stared at her.

“Miss Lily, I have worked here for most of my life.”

“I have never stolen anything.”

“You cannot shame me this way.”

Lily gave a small laugh.

“We won’t know until we search.”

She moved one hand.

Two guards stepped forward.

Vivian stood in front of Mrs. Warren.

“Don’t touch her.”

She was too weak.

One push sent her to the floor.

Her wounds opened again.

Pain made the room spin.

Behind her, the guards reached for Mrs. Warren’s coat.

Lily watched with a smile.

“You called me a homewrecker last night.”

“You are not so innocent yourself.”

Mrs. Warren suddenly grabbed her chest.

She struggled to breathe.

Vivian knew at once what was happening.

Her asthma was getting worse.

Vivian forced herself up and reached for the inhaler on the floor.

Her fingers almost touched it

Lily picked it up first.

‘That is her emergency inhaler.”

Vivian’s voice broke.

“Give it back.”

Lily looked at the inhaler.

Then she turned and walked toward the garden.

Vivian followed her.

Several of Grayson’s hunting dogs were inside a fenced pen.

They became restless when they heard the noise.

Lily raised her arm.

She threw the inhaler into the pen.

It landed near the dogs.

Lily looked back at Vivian.

Her smile was sweet and cruel.

“You care about her so much.”

“Go get it.”

Vivian did not stop to think.

She climbed over the fence.

The dogs smelled blood.

They rushed at her.

Teeth closed around her arm.

The old burns tore open.

Pain blinded her.

Still, Vivian kept moving toward the inhaler.

Another dog attacked from behind.

Its teeth closed around her leg.

She fell and hit the stone steps.

Her mind almost went dark.

Then a furious voice came from behind her.

“Get back!”

The dogs moved away.

Grayson rushed into the pen and lifted Vivian from the ground.

Her body was covered in blood.

When his hands touched her wounds, his fingers went stiff.

Before he could speak, Lily ran to him in tears.

“Grayson, I was so scared.”

“She tried to push me into the pen.”

“I moved away, and she fell in.”

Grayson’s face hardened.

He gave Vivian to a guard.

Then he turned to Lily and checked her body.

“Are you hurt?”

Lily shook her head.

Grayson pulled her close.

“I’ll have the guards take Vivian to the hospital.”

“When she wakes, she will answer for this.”

Vivian tried to speak.

No sound came out.

No one saw the crushed inhaler in the mud.

No one remembered Mrs. Warren, who was still fighting for air near the staff rooms.

When Vivian woke, she was in a hospital bed.

A nurse stood beside her

Ms Mercer, I’m sorry”

‘Mrs Warren was already gone when they brought her in.”

Vivian stared at the nurse.

For a long time, she did not move.

Then she coughed up blood.

Bright red drops hit the white sheets.

She could not even cry.

Mrs. Warren was dead.

The last person in this world who truly cared about her was gone.

The door opened later.

Mr. Ashford Sr. was pushed into the room in a wheelchair.

Dark wooden prayer beads moved through his fingers.

He placed a document in front of Vivian.

“The divorce is final.”

Vivian took it with shaking hands.

It was a final divorce order.

On the day she arrived in this future, she had given the signed agreement to Mr. Ashford Sr.

The old man had never liked her.

He thought she was weak and selfish because she would not accept other women in Grayson’s life.

But the agreement carried Grayson’s notarized signature.

It also included his consent to an uncontested divorce if he cheated.

Mr. Ashford Sr. had ordered the family lawyers to file it.

In Northgate, the court moved quickly when an Ashford demanded it.

“Grayson’s guards are at every exit.”

“You will not leave this hospital through the front door.”

I arranged a helicopter

“Leave Northgate before he learns what happened.”

Vivian followed his people to the roof.

The wind pulled at her hospital gown.

She looked back at the city that had trapped her for ten years.

There was no love left in her eyes.

The helicopter rose into the sky.

Vivian closed her eyes.

From that day forward, she planned to never see Grayson Ashford again.
