They Took Turns Pretending to Be My Mate Chapter 11

Once they forced us into the truck, Lola kicked and screamed.

She sank her teeth into Kyle’s hand.

Kyle only frowned. He still smiled at her gently.

“Lola, if biting me makes you feel better, you can bite me all you want.”

“What’s so great about Northreach when all it ever does is snow?”

“Spring has already reached Southridge.”

“I’ll take you down to the river to catch fish, okay?”

“Didn’t you used to love going out with me?”

Lola released him and glared at him viciously.

“No!”

“You’re both liars!”

“Let go of Mom!”

“Let my mom go!”

“I want to go back.”

“I want to find Sam!”

Kyle froze, and his expression immediately darkened.

“Who is Sam?”

Lola refused to answer.

She buried herself in my arms, sobbing so hard that her entire body shook.

My hands and feet were bound, but I raised my eyes and stared coldly at Kyle.

Kyle pressed his lips together. Before he could say anything, Kane climbed into the truck.

He shoved Kyle aside and gripped my hand.

“Ella, don’t blame me for this.”

“When we get back to Southridge, you can hit me or curse me all you want.”

“Three months.”

“No, one month

“If you’re still unhappy there after that, if you still hate me, I’ll bring you back myself. All right?”

*Just give me one chance to make this right.”

“Please?”

I turned my head away and let out a humorless laugh.

“Kane, I will never trust a liar again.”

“And if I go back with the two of you, then what?”

“Do you expect the two of you to keep taking turns being with me?”

Kane froze.

He looked back at Kyle, who instinctively looked at him as well.

Their eyes met.

Kane was the first to turn away. His voice was hard.

“That will never happen again.”

“Ella, I’m cutting him out of my life for good. I’ll have nothing more to do with him.”

“If I hadn’t been stupid enough to bring him into this, he never would have had the chance to touch you.”

“He was never supposed to have any part of this.”

Kyle’s expression shifted in an instant.

“What did you just say?”

Kane did not turn around.

He only gave my hand a gentle squeeze and replied calmly, “I said those three years had nothing to do with

you.”

“From now on, I’m the only one who needs to take care of Ella.”

“They had nothing to do with me?”

“Kane, say that again.”

“You were the one who came to me in the first place.”

“That was before.”

“Things are different now.”

“How are they different?”

Kyle suddenly looked at me, his eyes reddening.

“Ella, I’m not like my brother.”

“That coward had three years and still never had the guts to seal the mate bond with you.”

“If you go back to him, who knows if he’ll get bored again and throw you away?”

“I never would.”

“I’ve loved you all along.”

“If he hadn’t gone after you behind my back first, and if that patrol assignment hadn’t delayed me, he never would have had a chance with you.”

“I wouldn’t have had to pretend to be him and go to such lengths just to get close to you.”

“What do you mean?”

Kane spun around and seized Kyle by the collar.

They slammed into the wooden side panel of the truck bed with a dull thud.

At that moment, the truck lurched violently.

A blast of icy wind blew open the canvas flap at the back of the truck, revealing a massive white figure outside.

A snow-white wolf stood in the middle of the road.

His four paws were planted deep in the snow, and his icy blue eyes were fixed on the truck.

Lola lifted her head from my arms, and her eyes instantly lit up.

“Sam!”

Both brothers turned toward him, immediately on guard.

I saw blood steadily seeping from the wound on the white wolf’s forepaw, and my heart clenched.

The truck had already traveled a long way.

Yet Sam had run all the way from Northreach to catch up with us.
