They Said He Hated Clingy Girls—So I Stopped… And He Didn’t Like It Chapter 12

Back at the apartment, Blaine didn’t say a word – he just went straight to the sink and started washing my underwear by hand. I drifted past him and dropped it casually like it meant nothing. “Claire’s with someone else, by the way.” Nothing. So the next time I passed by, I said it again. “Claire’s with someone else.” Blaine’s brow creased. There it was. Then he snapped, “I know!” “What does her engagement have to do with me? She works for me – her love life isn’t my business.” He shook the water off his hands.

“Nora, if you’ve got that much energy to spare, how about focusing some of it on me?” I froze. It was out before I could think about it. “But don’t you love Claire?” Blaine let out a short, cold laugh. “I like her? That’s news to me.” He shook his head. “Why would I want her when I already have you?” I was more confused now than before. If the comments had been wrong the whole time, nothing he’d done made sense anymore. The comments started surfacing again. [Wait WAIT WAIT. The male lead never liked the heroine?? It was always the second female lead??] [Honestly, I always suspected.

He acted like he wanted nothing to do with her, but his body was telling a whole different story.] [I read the extras, and it all makes sense now. The pillow the heroine brought him? That was his idea.] [He noticed the second lead had no pillow and basically used the FL to deliver it for him. Honestly? The FL was just acting as his errand girl this whole time.] [And when he left after getting that call from her – that was real. He was literally putting out a fire at his office. Of course he had to go.] [The misunderstanding is INSANE…] I just stood there blinking.

Had it really been like that the whole time? I was still trying to process it when Blaine beat me to it. “I think I see the problem. I haven’t been giving you enough reassurance.” He looked at me. “I’m going to fix that tonight.” Every nerve in my body went on high alert. Every instinct in me screamed run – but Blaine was already faster, his arm hooking around my waist and pulling me in. He kissed my eyelids, then pressed his mouth to my ear. “I’m sorry, baby.” “I love you.” His voice dropped. “Only you.” “Don’t leave me, okay? I was wrong…” I couldn’t handle him like this.

I smacked his arm. That only seemed to encourage him. It was a long night. He didn’t fall asleep until well after midnight. I was exhausted.
