The Silent Wolf: From Broken Mother to Shadow Queen Chapter 06

Empty. Dead silent.

Before, back when Ellis and I were both home, no matter how late he came back, I always had food ready. Never once complained.

I always reminded Ellis to respect his father. That his dad worked hard to protect the pack.

But now? All of it was gone.

Dorian walked into the bedroom. He flipped on the light, and the dried, mottled bloodstains on the floor came into view.

He sucked in a sharp breath. That was the blood I’d coughed up from heartbreak before I left, and I hadn’t had time to clean it up.

He kept walking. Everything of value in the closet was gone, leaving only a few cheap, everyday clothes.

Seeing that, Dorian’s eyes went red. His wolf let out a whimper, a broken sound from deep in his chest.

He sank to the floor and lit a cigarette.

He couldn’t bear to imagine what I and his pup had gone through.

I’d begged him desperately for help. And he’d chosen to spend a hundred million in territory resources on a “peace agreement” with Crimson Thorn Pack and a vacation estate for Selka instead.

And fifty million meant nothing to him. Just a drop in the ocean of Shadow Moon Pack’s wealth.

He’d brushed me off again and again, refusing to believe a single word I said.

Even when pack allies called asking what was going on, offering to help pool resources to save Ellis, all he said was:

“Christine’s putting on a show. Ellis is fine at camp. I took Selka out once for her birthday and she’s using it for attention. Don’t give her anything.”

Remembering that, Dorian finally broke.

He dropped his head, a raw, animal sob tearing out of his throat, a howl ripped from the deepest part of his chest, like the whole world was caving in.

“I’m sorry, Christine. I’m sorry, Ellis. I’m a fucking monster.”

He cried for hours straight, all the way until dawn. Finally, he gripped the windowsill and forced himself up.

Without even changing his clothes, he rushed straight to pack headquarters.

“Who answered the calls? Can’t you people tell a real call from spam?!” The moment he stepped through the door, he pointed at the front desk and roared, “Pull the call records right now. If you can’t find them, every one of you is fired!”

The receptionist, a new pack member, was shaking with fear, but forced herself to speak through tears.

“We tried to report those calls to you, Alpha. But Miss Reed took the calls and said they were all scammers.”

“She said the callers were lying about Crimson Thorn Pack kidnapping your heir for ransom. She told us not to bother you while you were working.”

“We were afraid you’d get scammed, and if something really did happen, you’d blame us for not filtering your calls properly…”

Before she could finish, someone beside her nudged her hard, shaking their head frantically for her to stop talking.

She fell silent.

Her words hit Dorian’s chest like a blade of silver.

He staggered, nearly collapsing. His beta rushed forward just in time to catch him.

Once he’d steadied himself, Dorian’s fists clenched so tight his knuckles went white.

“So it was her, from start to finish. Bring that bitch back from Hawaii! She’s going to pay for this!”

After Ellis was laid to rest, I rented a place in Millhaven.

The enforcement division had just told me fingerprint identification would be difficult. Tracking down the Crimson Thorn Pack traitors wouldn’t be easy, and they asked if I wanted further forensic testing.

I refused. I didn’t want my pup’s small body put through anything more.

As I carried my son’s urn toward the cemetery, Dorian suddenly appeared.
