I Stabbed My Womb To Cut The Last Tie Binding Me To Him Chapter 04

Shock, anger, confusion, and finally terror flashed across Caleb’s face. As he lunged to grab my phone, the ward door was kicked open. My father stood there, his face dark and grim.

Just his presence.

It made Caleb’s knees go weak; he couldn’t even form a coherent sentence.

Beverly’s face transformed instantly, back to a groveling mask of politeness.

“Ar… Arthur.”

“What are you doing here?”

My father ignored her. I felt like I finally had a lifeline and called out.

“Dad.”

I had been raised as his little princess, cherished by both my parents.

I always thought.

As long as they were there, my world wouldn’t collapse.

I watched my father step closer. I watched Caleb trembling, stammering out a greeting.

“Dad.”

“Dad,” Caleb reached out frantically, “let me explain.”

“Shut up!”

Caleb froze in place.

I smiled and called out again, “Dad.”

I reached out to him just like I used to, but the moment he got close, my father raised his hand and slapped me across the face.

“You failure!”

My heart tightened; my breath stopped.

“How did I raise something so useless?”

My eyes widened in disbelief.

“Did I not tell you?”

I held my stinging cheek, staring at him.

“You chose this path. Even if it kills you, you will walk it to the end.”

His voice was flat.

I felt a profound chill.

“No one in the Sterling family gets a divorce.”

“I won’t have a ‘used’ daughter bringing shame to this name.”

As soon as he spoke, Beverly chimed in, “It’s just a little spat. Why talk about divorce, Sage?”

“Say something.”

“Don’t upset your father.”

Caleb finally stopped shaking, his smile becoming servile.

“Sage.”

“I swear you’re the only wife I’ll ever have.”

“Apologize to your father.”

“Do it now.”

With red eyes, I looked at the father who had pampered me since childhood. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my mother standing at the door, her gaze indifferent, showing no intention of helping me.

I suddenly started to laugh—a laugh jagged with tears. I looked at my father.

“So,” I laughed louder, “my happiness is less important than your reputation?”

I turned to my mother.

“My life is worth less than the ‘Sterling face’?”

“Is that it?”

“Is it?!”

“Answer me!”

My mother wouldn’t look at me. She simply turned her head and said:

“Sage, you have a child now.”

My father was waiting for me to submit. Caleb was waiting for me to apologize. Beverly was watching the show. I remembered the mistress’s words:

“He let you be the surrogate tool for us.”

I remembered Caleb saying:

“That kind of trick only works once.”

“It loses its impact.”

I remembered Beverly:

“You bitch!”

“If you ever cause a scene again, I’ll make sure you’re the one thrown out!”

And my father:

“You chose this path.”

“Even if it kills you, you will walk it to the end.”

Even if it kills me.

Walk it to the end.

Even if it kills me.

“Hahaha.”

“Hahahahaha.”

I laughed until I cried, looking at everyone in the room—my closest, supposedly most beloved family and husband, and the woman who wanted to be my mother-in-law. I laughed louder and louder, tears streaming down my face. I called out to my father.

“Dad.”

I forced myself out of bed, stepping onto the wet floor—stepping into my broken life.

“Caleb Vance.”

I couldn’t stop laughing.

“Mom.”

One step at a time, I spoke.

“It was you.”

“You all said,” I was losing my voice from the laughter, but I had to say it, “you said you loved me, that you’d protect me.”

“But it was also you.”

I suddenly stopped laughing and looked at every face in the room.

“You are the ones who threw me away.”

I suddenly turned. Amidst my father’s shock, Caleb’s horror, my mother’s scream, and Beverly’s cry, I pushed past everyone and ran for the window. I threw myself into the air, toward my freedom. As Caleb frantically lunged for the window, screaming:

“Sage!”

In the last second before he could grab my hand.

I simply told him:

“In the next life.”

“Let’s never meet again.”
