I Stabbed My Womb To Cut The Last Tie Binding Me To Him Chapter 03

I had truly believed I had found happiness. I thought my life was charmed—academic success, a perfect family, and a smooth romance. I had never known hardship; the most “bitter” thing I had ever tasted was a cold brew coffee.

Now.

I felt a suffocating tightness in my chest and a bitter taste on my tongue. My entire perception of happiness was shattered. Looking at this mother and son, I couldn’t stop the tears as I mocked them.

“Keep dreaming.”

My voice was dry, but firm.

“I will tell my parents everything.”

“I want a divorce.”

I looked at the indifferent faces of Caleb and Beverly.

“Your little scheme.”

“I will never let you win.”

I assumed that as long as I told my parents, as long as I voiced the abuse I suffered, they would stand by me.

Meanwhile, Caleb sat in the hospital room calling his mistress, even starting a video call in front of me. He turned the camera toward me, telling her to say hello.

“Hey, Sage.”

“Life is short,” the woman’s voice was mocking.

“You’ve already had the kid.”

“Why are you being so stubborn?”

“If it weren’t for your family’s trust fund,” she sneered, “you think a guy like Caleb would ever look at you?”

“You’re delusional.”

The woman’s laughter rang in my ears. She wore something revealing and leaned into the camera until all I could see were her heavy red lips.

She said, word for word:

“If you didn’t have the money,”

“How else do you think I’d agree to Caleb being with you? How else do you think I’d let you keep the title of ‘Mrs. Vance’?”

“It’s because Caleb cares about me too much to make me go through pregnancy. He let you be the surrogate tool for us.”

Her laughter chilled me to the bone.

I stared wide-eyed at Caleb, the man who had supposedly cherished me.

Even when the doctor said my uterine lining was thin and conceiving would be difficult, Caleb had just smiled and held me.

“Having a kid doesn’t matter, really.”

He would gently coax me:

“A baby would be a bonus.”

“Without one,” Caleb would kiss away my tears, “you’re my baby.”

“I’ll take care of you like you’re my only child, okay?”

I had looked into his eyes, my heart melting, swearing I would give him a child. I had hidden the IVF treatments from him, and when he found out, he cried as he held me.

“Sage.”

“I don’t want you to suffer.”

“Honey, it breaks my heart.”

Now.

I felt trapped in a giant spiderweb, wrapped in airtight lies. I couldn’t breathe. I stared intensely at Caleb, who just sat there lazily.

“Sage.”

“Family legacy is everything.”

“A man needs a bloodline.”

“I wanted an heir, a successor. It’s for your own good, too.”

“Otherwise,” Caleb smiled as he poured me a cup of tea, “how would your parents show their faces in public?”

“They’d be the laughingstock of the country—their only daughter is a ‘failure’, right?”

Hot coffee.

Caleb held it with a certain, smug smile. He was sure the baby would chain me down, that I would swallow my resentment and stay for the sake of the child.

But I violently slapped his hand away. The hot coffee splashed on Caleb, making him shriek in pain.

“Caleb Vance.”

I smiled and shook my phone, showing the active call screen. I watched as Caleb, ignoring his burns, stared at the phone in terror.

I smiled into the phone at my father.

“Dad.”

“Are you still going to refuse to let me get a divorce?”
