I Stabbed My Womb To Cut The Last Tie Binding Me To Him Chapter 02

“Sage.”

“Are you satisfied now?”

Caleb walked to the bedside, took off his jacket, and sat in the chair.

“Watching your father humiliate me, watching me grovel like a dog in front of your parents—does that make you feel powerful?”

“Sage, I’ll admit, the whole ‘cutting the baby out’ stunt scared me.”

“But that kind of trick only works once.”

“Do it too often,”

Caleb slowly poured himself a glass of water, talking as he drank.

“And it loses its impact.”

“Oh, and,” Caleb seemed to remember something and smiled, “the baby you tried so hard to cut out? Unlucky for you, it survived.”

“It’s in the NICU.”

“So, you’re still Mrs.Vance, Sage Sterling.”

Caleb started to laugh.

I felt a crushing weight on my chest; my throat felt blocked. I struggled to sit up, wanting to scream at him, but Caleb grabbed my wrist.

“Honey, don’t push yourself.”

“The doctor said you need rest—a long time of rest,” Caleb’s eyes were no longer filled with concern or panic, only contempt. “We have all the time in the world. We’re in this for the long haul.”

The metallic scent reached my nose again. The thought of his betrayal felt like venom in my veins, stinging me, suddenly sparking a surge of strength. I violently wrenched my arm away from Caleb, knocking over the kettle on the nightstand. Scalding water splashed everywhere as I raised my hand and slapped Caleb across the face.

“Get out!”

My throat felt like it had been shredded by razor blades. Even making a sound was agony, but I had to say it.

“Get out!”

“Caleb Vance!”

“Get out!”

The commotion was too loud.

Beverly, who had been waiting outside, rushed in to find the room in shambles. The kettle was shattered on the floor, shards surrounding Caleb’s feet, hot water everywhere. Beverly suddenly flew into a rage, grabbing my collar and screaming.

“You bitch!”

“If it weren’t for your parents’ money!”

“If it weren’t for the fact that you’re an only child!”

“If it weren’t for you being reasonably compliant!”

“You think my son would put up with your shit?!”

“I’m telling you, bitch,” Beverly shoved me back onto the bed and began pinching my arms, my legs, my chest—using physical violence while she cursed. “You’ve already birthed a Vance heir!”

“From now on, you do exactly what we say, do you understand?!”

“I’m telling you!”

“Your parents are going to die eventually!”

“Everything the Sterlings own is going to belong to my son!”

“If you ever cause a scene again!”

“I’ll make sure you’re the one thrown out on the street!”

Beverly was vicious, pinching my skin until I gasped in pain, tears streaming down my face. Then I heard Caleb speak.

“That’s enough.”

“If her parents see her like this, they’ll blame me again.”

“Don’t worry.”

“It’s all in places that aren’t visible. Her parents won’t have anything to say.”

My heart went cold. Looking at Beverly and Caleb, it still felt surreal, absurd. I couldn’t believe this was the same Caleb Vance who had once knelt at my door, refusing to leave despite the pouring rain, begging my father to approve our marriage.

Was this the same mother who had knelt with Caleb before my father and sworn:

“From now on, Sage is like my own daughter!”

“If Caleb ever mistreats her,”

“I’ll disown my own son before I let anything happen to her!”
