I Changed The Wedding Into A Cancellation Mid-Ceremony Chapter 05

The low hum of conversation died all at once.

Someone gasped.

Glasses stopped clinking. The laughter cut off.

Even the officiant froze, microphone halfway to his mouth.

Vanessa was at the podium, mouth open, about to speak. One look at the screen, and all the color drained

from her face.

The microphone slipped from her hand and hit the floor. A screech of feedback pierced the room.

A second ago, Nathan had been watching her with soft eyes. Now his head snapped toward the screen.

His expression hardened.

“Turn it off.”

His voice was tight with rage.

Nobody moved. Every eye in the room stayed fixed on the screen.

A guest in the front row winced. Someone in the back muttered under their breath.

“That’s disgusting…”

Vanessa snapped out of it and rushed off the stage.

“Stop watching!”

“It’s not real!”

She lunged for the remote, but the wedding planner stepped back out of reach.

Nathan was already moving. He didn’t come to me first.

He went straight to Vanessa and stepped between her and the crowd, then spoke through clenched teeth.

“Elena.”

“Cut the video.”

“Whatever this is, we’ll handle it privately.”

I stood at the end of the aisle, watching him. The irony hit me all at once.

When my parents were soaked and humiliated, he told me not to make a scene. Now it was Vanessa’s turn to

be exposed, and suddenly he wanted to handle it quietly.

My parents were still in the farthest corner.

My mom clutched the black uniform to her chest, staring at the screen, not fully processing it. The shock was simply too much to take in.

All she knew was that the room had finally stopped staring at her and my dad.

My dad had crumpled his speech into a ball in his fist. His eyes went from the screen to me.

His lips parted, the way they always did when he wanted to tell me to let it go.

This time, I held his gaze.

I shook my head.

Not this time, Dad.

Vanessa was sobbing now. She clung to Nathan’s sleeve, shaking her head.

“Nathan, it’s not what it looks like.”

“Elena set me up.”

“She framed me.

Nathan’s jaw was clenched, but his arm was still around her. The guests noticed.

A fresh wave of whispers rippled through the room.

“After all that, he’s still shielding the secretary?”

“He didn’t look half this upset when the bride’s parents were the ones being humiliated.”

“If she actually goes through with this wedding, it’ll be a joke.

The video kept playing. A new clip started.

Vanessa buried her face in her hands. Her whole body shook.

Nathan went white.

I watched them fall apart. I felt absolutely nothing.

So they did know what humiliation felt like. They knew what it felt like to have a room full of people staring

and whispering.

Then where was that awareness an hour ago? My parents had been soaked in wine and mocked by strangers,

and Nathan had called it a joke.

The officiant Teaned toward me.

“Miss Ashford, should we continue?”

I took the microphone.

Every eye in the room turned to me.

I didn’t look at Nathan. I didn’t look at Vanessa.

I looked at my parents, sitting in the corner.

“Keep it rolling.”

“Let them see every last second.”
