He Married Her On The Day We Were Supposed To Wed Chapter 06

After apologizing to the hospital administrator, Ryan ended the call with a grim expression.

He held the still-sobbing Lila tightly and looked at me with crushing disappointment.

“Elise, I barely recognize you anymore.”

“How did you become this vicious? You even convinced Mrs. Carter to fake her death so you could

frame Lila.”

“Aren’t you afraid you’re tempting fate and your mother might actually die?”

Lila glanced at me from the corner of her eye, a victorious smile tugging at her lips.

Megan folded her arms, looking equally smug.

At that moment, proving Lila wrong or convincing Ryan to believe me no longer mattered.

I only wanted to know where my mother’s body had

gone.

Dr. Walker was a compassionate physician and a man of integrity. There was no chance Lila and Megan could have bribed him.

If he insisted that my mother was dead, then she was truly gone.

But the hospital could not find her body.

I glared at Megan and Lila with pure hatred.

If I had possessed enough strength to stand, I would have dragged them both down with me.

They would not even leave a dead woman in peace.

They had to be the ones who had stolen my mother’s body.

Give her back to me!

I grabbed the wooden tissue box from the nightstand and hurled it at Lila with a furious roar.

“You bitch! My mother is already dead, and you desecrated her body just to frame me. Aren’t you afraid of what will happen to you?”

“Give me back my mother!”

Ryan reacted instantly and blocked the wooden box with the back of his bare hand before it struck

Lila in the forehead.

The box was made of solid wood, and its corners were especially sharp.

A large welt rose almost immediately on the back of Ryan’s hand.

He stepped in front of Lila. The last trace of warmth in his eyes disappeared, leaving only a

bone-deep coldness.

“Enough! Elise, you’re still accusing Lila after everything that has happened. Do you honestly think I’ll believe you?”

“For the sake of what we once had, I won’t report you for attacking her. But if you ever try to hurt her again, I’ll press charges and make sure you end up behind bars.”

“I’ll continue sending money every month for Mrs. Carter’s medical bills. But after today, I don’t want us to see each other again. I don’t want to upset my wife.”

Lila muttered unhappily,

“Babe, you work so hard for your money. I don’t want you paying a stranger’s medical bills.”

Megan immediately backed her up.

“Ryan, Lila is only worried because you’re too trusting. Elise’s mother isn’t even that sick. She only asks you for all that money every month because she wants to squeeze money out of you.”

Ryan gave me a conflicted glance before quickly lowering his eyes.

“No matter what happened, Elise was with me for twelve years. She stood by me from the time I had nothing until I built everything I have today.”

“Elise, consider the money for Mrs. Carter’s treatment my compensation to you. After that, we’re

even.”

The door closed behind them.

I lay alone in the hospital bed, alternating between hysterical sobs and broken laughter.

Ryan, you bastard.

What good was his money to me?

My mother was already gone. I had no use for a single filthy dollar from him.
