“Give it enough time, and he’ll get tired of you, too.”

“He’ll be tempted by other people.”

“He’ll find your deepest wounds and stab right into them.”

“Everything I’ve done, he’ll do, too. He might even be

crueler!”

I looked at him and asked softly, “So?”

Malachi seemed to choke on the word.

I continued.

“I love him.”

“Just like I won’t deny that I once loved you.”

Malachi suddenly fell silent.

His shoulders slumped.

As if something had finally, completely crushed him.

The police officers who had been closing in tackled him to

the ground and snapped handcuffs on his wrists.

Before the final boarding call echoed through the terminal, I

pulled my suitcase through the gate and didn’t look back.

The northern lights in Norway were even more beautiful than I had imagined.

Ribbons of color drifted slowly across the night sky.

I breathed out a cloud of cold air, pressed the shutter, and

captured that piece of the sky in a photograph.

Beneath a universe so vast, people really are small.

And love, hate, pain, despair, betrayal… they all become

smaller, too.

It was time to move on.
