He Left Me For His Pregnant Ex, So I Took Everything Chapter 12

I didn’t comfort him.

He asked, “Did you know?”

“I knew Ruby’s account had several payments going to Christian Hayes. I didn’t know about the child.”

Garrett sat there like all his pride had been stripped away.

“Scarlett, I really messed up.”

I looked at him. “You didn’t mess up by marrying her.”

He looked up.

I said, “You messed up by lying to me.”

Shouting came from outside.

Summer rushed in. “Ms. Stirling, Ruby is here. And Mrs. Vance.”

Mrs. Vance burst in. “Scarlett Stirling! What kind of poison have you fed Garrett now?”

Ruby stood behind her, face full of grievance. “She told him the child isn’t his.”

Garrett shot to his feet. “She didn’t tell me anything.”

Mrs. Vance stared at her son. “Then who did?”

Garrett put the documents on the table. “I found out myself.”

Ruby immediately cried, “You investigated me?”

Garrett asked, “Who is Christian Hayes?”

Ruby’s crying stuttered.

Mrs. Vance froze too. “Who’s Christian Hayes?”

I leaned back in my chair. “Take your time.”

Ruby suddenly pointed at me. “It’s all her fault! She wants the Vance line to die out!”

Garrett roared, “Enough!”

Everyone outside the office heard it.

Ruby had never heard him raise his voice like that, let alone in public. Her composure shattered entirely.

“Garrett Vance, now you’re sick of me? Back then you said you’d protect me forever!”

Mrs. Vance quickly grabbed her. “Ruby, don’t say that.”

Ruby shook her off. “And don’t you pretend to be the good one! Weren’t you the one who told me that as long as I got pregnant, Scarlett would be out?”

The staff at the door went dead quiet.

Mrs. Vance’s lips trembled.

Garrett looked at his mother. “Mom.”

Mrs. Vance stammered, “She’s lying.”

I picked up my cup and didn’t drink.

This drama was unfolding faster than I’d expected.

Garrett asked quietly, “So the fake divorce—you both forced me into it?”

Mrs. Vance shouted, “I did it for you!”

Ruby cried harder. “Now the Vances are going to blame everything on me? Fine. If I’m miserable, nobody gets to be happy!”

She turned and ran.

Mrs. Vance chased after her.

Garrett stood there.

I said, “Mr. Vance, the door’s that way.”

He looked at me, his lips moving. In the end, he said nothing.

Ruby meant what she said about nobody being happy. The next day, she crashed Garrison Group’s charity gala.

It was my first public event since taking over.

She wore plain clothes and carried the baby, blocking the entrance.

Many guests noticed.

Mrs. Vance followed, pasting on a smile. “Scarlett, it’s a happy day. We’re here as family to support you.”

I asked, “Family?”

Mrs. Vance corrected herself. “I mean—the Garrison Group family.”

Ruby said quietly, “Chairwoman Stirling, we won’t cause trouble.”

I looked at her. “Then sit quietly.”

She nodded.

But shortly after the gala started, she went on stage.

The host had just announced the donation list when Ruby grabbed the microphone.

“Everyone, I’d like to say a few words on behalf of my child’s father.”

The room went silent.

Garrett’s face turned dark. He started to go up, but Mrs. Vance held him back.

Ruby continued, “Garrison Group wouldn’t be where it is without Garrett. But because of personal issues, he’s been pushed out. I’m not asking Chairwoman Stirling to forgive me—I’m just asking her not to destroy my child’s father.”

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

I didn’t move.

Ruby turned to me. “Chairwoman Stirling, you have everything now. Can’t you just let us go?”

I stood and walked to the stage.

She clutched the microphone tightly.

I held out my hand. “Give it to me.”

She shook her head. *”Are you going to shut me down again?”*

I said, “You’ve had your turn. Now it’s mine.”

She hesitated, then handed it over.

I looked at the audience. “Tonight’s donations were voluntarily contributed by employees. They have nothing to do with Vance family matters.”

“Ruby mentioned the child’s father. I respect her right to speak.”

Ruby relaxed slightly.

I continued, “But I will not allow anyone to use a child to deflect from financial issues.”

The big screen lit up.

First image: Ruby’s cousin’s receipt of funds.

Second: the postpartum center’s repayment.

Third: her message to Garrett’s assistant demanding fifty million.

The crowd erupted.
