Refuse to Be Your Luna’s Shadow Chapter 08

The next time I saw Bryce, we stood on opposite sides of a courtroom. He sat at the defendants’ table; I was the plaintiff.

He kept his head bowed, his face laced with regret.

“Freya, I was wrong, truly. I shouldn’t have listened to that viper… I hurt you.” His voice was pleading. “Please, drop the charges. Our parents are aged, and the pack needs me… if this goes on, we’ll completely lose our influence in the Pack.”

I could see the despair in his eyes, but it did not touch me. “You are not sorry for what you did. You are only sorry you got caught. I will never forgive you, Bryce.”

The last hope drained from his face. He collapsed back in his chair.

My eyes shifted to the other defendant, Pearl. She was shaking, tears streaming down her face.

“Freya, I know I was wrong! I was just jealous of you, holding a grudge that you took my place. I am such an idiot! Please let me go, please! I swear I will leave Nightshade for good. You can be Alpha’s only daughter forever.”

I sneered, looking down at her crocodile tears. “I have always been Alpha’s daughter. Everything you had was mine to begin with. Why do you talk as if you are doing me some grand favor? As if I should be grateful to you?”

My words stripped the last of her act away. The pitiful mask vanished. What came through was a deep, visceral rage.

“Ungrateful bitch,” she screamed. “You are nothing but a fallen slut! If you hadn’t come back and gotten me thrown out, none of this would have happened! You have no right to judge me.”

I stayed calm and nodded to my lawyer. He picked up an external drive and walked to the judge.

“Your Honor,” he said, “we have new evidence.”

“Pearl was not drugged against her will at Moon Goddess Club. She willingly took wolfsbane-based stimulants and engaged in multiple sexual acts while under the influence, which led to her injuries.”

“Afterward, she fabricated an assault and claimed my client, Freya, spiked her drink with sedatives.”

The screen lit up with security footage. Pearl appeared on the recording, voluntarily taking the drug, wrapping herself around one male after another.

Toxicology reports followed, then a series of related messages were presented. The evidence was airtight.

The courtroom fell silent. Pearl looked like a puppet with its strings cut, crumpling to the floor.

“You lied to me!” Bryce snarled. He jumped to his feet, finger trembling as he pointed at her. “You told me you were forced! I took revenge for you, and you were lying from the start. You sneaky snake!”

With the new evidence, the charges were amended.

Pearl was found guilty of multiple offenses and sentenced to three years in a high security pack prison, followed by mandatory rehab.

Bryce was convicted of conspiracy and aggravated assault. He was sentenced to five years.
