Refuse to Be Your Luna’s Shadow Chapter 06

Pearl was furious that the attention had shifted away from her. Every day she complained to Bryce, even threatening to leave Nightshade Pack altogether.

Her doting big brother finally broke. He could only buy her all kinds of gifts—custom moonstone jewelry, a sleek sports car… He tried everything to appease her.

The day I was discharged from the pack hospital, my parents did not come. Bryce found some excuse to drag Cassian away.

I packed my things alone, and walked out of the hospital. The moment I stepped through the doors, a wall of cameras closed in.

Reporters swarmed me like starved vultures, their scents sharp with aggression and bloodthirsty excitement. Flashes exploded in my face until my vision turned white.

I was stuck.

“Freya! Are the photos circulating online of you with that group of rogues real?”

“Did you try to kill yourself because you felt ashamed, because you were afraid your pack and your mate would abandon you?”

The questions hit me one after another, like punches to the ribs.

My head spun. My lungs felt tight. Words refused to come.

Just as I thought I would pass out, the crowd split open.

“Move!” Cassian roared. He forced his way through the reporters and stepped in front of me, his body a solid wall between me and the cameras.

A microphone was shoved toward his face. “Alpha Cassian, as her ex mate, what do you think of her… promiscuous behavior?”

Cassian’s head snapped toward the reporter. His Alpha aura slammed through the air, a clear warning. “You run one more lie, and my lawyers will take your little outlet apart piece by piece! Every single one who slanders her will pay for it.”

Right then, Bryce and Pearl arrived. Pearl saw Cassian shielding me and finally lost her perfect composure. “Bryce, look at him! He is still defending that slut! Those photos are real and he’s actually lying for her.”

Bryce pointed at Cassian, hand shaking with rage. “Have you lost your mind, Cassian? What did Pearl ever do to deserve this? How can you protect that filthy whore?”

Cassian’s fist came up, ready to break Bryce’s face, but I spoke before he could, my voice clear and cold. “Cassian, you don’t have to do this. He is right.”

His fist froze in midair. “Freya… what?”

My admission confirmed what everyone had seen in those photos. The reporters surged closer again, voices rising.

I was not finished. I lifted my head and found the pair of eyes trembling in the crowd, my gaze unwavering.

“I was raped indeed.”

“And the culprit who made it happen was you.”
